Jorel's Brother and the Most Important Game of the Galaxy is a point-and-click adventure game that was developed by Double Dash Studios and Copa Studio, distributed by Double Dash Studios as well, and was based on the Brazilian series "Jorel's Brother".The game was released on June 15, 2023, for mobile (both iOS and Android) and for Windows via Steam. The game is set in the story of Jorel's brother, who is an 8-year-old boy who lives with his family in the shadow of Jorel, his handsome and popular firstborn.
For anyone who is a fan of the series, this game is a must-have, to say the least.

The Universe

Initially, before mentioning any of the technical aspects of the game, I would like to talk about the development of the world and how well it captures the essence of the series. The care for detail is remarkable, whether in the creation of the art and settings, in the narrative and dialogs, or even in the sound effects. The game gives you the same cartoon vibe all the time and still maintains the same signature humor.

In addition, the game goes beyond the main narrative and offers us a satisfying amount of content, either boasting numerous collectibles and secret areas to be discovered, side quests to complete, or even interactive items scattered around the map that always present us with a fun animation or dialogue.

The universe is very faithful to the series and at every moment provides us with serotonin and fun, either in a conversation with Granny Juju giving us lessons on how to make the poop look good or when interacting with the map. In this aspect, again, I mention that those who like the series have a mission to try the game because, besides being a very pleasant experience, since it is more than just loaded references to the cartoon, it is practically additional content.

After all, one of the developers of the game, Copa Studio, is also the original producer of "Jorel's Brother", which explains a lot about how all areas of the game are so similar to the series.

The main event

In my opinion, the main course of the game is the dialogs; after all, it is through them that the game runs and keeps you hooked within the universe of the original series. They are very fun and dynamic, flow in an extremely natural way, and lead you through the mysteries and missions very well. There were moments when the conversations developed so well that I ended up overlooking the hints or important issues of the missions because I was just enjoying the moment.

Another strong point—perhaps it is a well-served dessert?—to be mentioned is the high quality of the art the game offers us. Besides being totally faithful to the cartoon, the animations, and scenarios are, although simple, very well placed and always in line with the assumed humor. It has a unique aesthetic, besides being very pleasant and beautiful to look at.

One step closer to the show

I will dedicate this part of the review to talking about the sound issues in the game. It's a bit tricky because, while the game's audio quality is good and still remains very true to the vibe of the TV series, there are a few things missing, in my opinion, that could easily turn the game into a spectacle.

First, the soundtracks of Jorel's Brother and the Most Important Game of the Galaxy, despite bringing the energetic atmosphere of the cartoon, end up being a little repetitive when you stay in the same environment for a while. In my case, it was due to my own incompetence, but I ended up getting stuck in a stage of the game, and there came a time when I just wanted to change the soundtrack. Overall, they are not bad; they just repeat a little more than I would like.

About the sound design of the game in terms of sound effects: splendid! Without much to go on, the sound samples fit like a glove with the actions on the screen and really bring you back into the cartoon. It is fun and immersive.

You can imagine Jorel's brother's voice saying that, can't you?

Now for what, in my opinion, is a bicycle kick that hits the crossbar and almost goes in but doesn't, I am talking about the dubbing. It is hard to say this since the voice acting is done by the original actors of the series, who are great, by the way, and are one of the main signatures of the cartoon, and it is great. You must be wondering then, "Why did the ball hit the crossbar and not go in? Where is the problem? For me, it is not a problem; it is just the fact that it was one step away from reaching the spectacle, the masterpiece.

It is a fact that the dubbing is performed only over sound effects and character expressions, not reaching the dialogues either. The liveliness that the characters' voices bring to the series would be lovely to experience in-game in combination with the fun and silly dialogues. It is a point that sticks in people's memories and ends up being one of the biggest, if not the biggest, representations of the cartoon. It would really be a spectacle. So, in the end, the voice acting in the game is of good quality and extremely well put together; however, it does not extend to the dialogues, which are the main course of the game.

One thing I didn't expect to find during the work since it is point-and-click is the variety of mechanics that will appear as the game demands you in different ways. The game has moments of puzzles, platforming, and even combat. They are all very simple mechanics and gameplay, but it still surprised me. In the end, I think the simplicity of the mechanics adds to the dynamics of the main course, the dialogue.

For this review, Jorel's Brother and the Most Important Game of the Galaxy was played on the PC through Steam.

We would like to thank Double Dash Studios for making the game key available so that this content could be created!

Jorel's Brother and The Most Important Game in the Galaxy is a charming and fun point-and-click adventure that immerses you in the universe of "Jorel's Brother". Despite not being filled with technologies, the game offers a pleasant and humorous experience through dialogues that capture the characteristic humor of the series. Although it has the flaw of not extending the dubbing to the dialogues, the game provides a joyful and nostalgic experience, especially for those familiar with the cartoon.
