GameScience focuses on a new game instead of DLC for Wukong

The Game Science, developer of Black Myth: Wukong, is focusing on a new project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The decision raises questions about the future of Wukong, but the studio has ensured that the story of Sun Wukong will continue, even though the attention is now on the new game.

The CEO of Game Science, Feng Ji, explained in a post on Weibo that the idea of a DLC for Wukong was considered, but the team changed direction after reflecting on the expectations surrounding extra content. The decision was reinforced when co-founder Yang Qi suggested creating a completely new game.

"A DLC would be a safe choice, but we prefer to create a new Black Myth first: new hero, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, and a new story. We want to experiment boldly and start from scratch," said Feng Ji in an interview with MP1st.

Although the development of Zhong Kui is a priority, the executive emphasized that the legend of Journey to the West and Sun Wukong will return "in a more complete and solid way," although it has not specified whether this will happen through a new DLC or a dedicated sequel.

While Game Science focuses on Zhong Kui, fans of Wukong will have to wait to see how the future of the franchise will unfold. The company's decision, although risky, shows the studio's ambition not to limit itself to just one title.
