Elex II is the sequel of Ellex, released on March 1st, 2022, from the same creators of the Gothic and Risen franchise, the German developer Piranha Bytes. Elex II returns with a post-apocalyptical experience sci-fi fantasy of Magalan, promising an open word and a wide-range story.
The story fails in its ambition
For those who have never played Elex, we continue with Jax in the main line, years after his victory against Hybrid, but, without the “picking up where you stopped” logic, we appear with only one stick and some fabric clothes.
Right in the beginning, with an alien invasion, we’re introduced to a new villain who has a threatening power, his nickname is “Dark Elex”, so our hero story begins. So, Jax, knowing that the apocalypse is coming, goes after his ex-wife, the leader of a faction, to search and get help from companions who will join us during this game, very similar to Fallout 4.
Although the world construction is a positive point, the creators failed in a narrative that looked interesting. To begin with, it’s impossible to like any character, they are sarcastic and treat people badly (the charism of our character doesn’t help either), but we need them to build an army, recruiting sellers, warriors, and others to fight against “Skyands”.
Besides this, we find ourselves lost all the time by the number of dialogues and the mix between several not-so-well-worked missions, even though it’s an open game. So, this ambitious project of creating a huge and diversified universe ends up losing itself and not pleasing, and sometimes it seems that we aren’t advancing in the story thanks to all this mess.

One of the developer’s best
The experience in an open world was more than gratifying in the entire game, with several biomes, ruins, and campsites, as well the alternatives of exploration and enemies diversity. Although the game has a simple design, the art is a positive point potentializing, even more, the lack of a loading screen, that is, the exploration is more immersive.
You can be wondering if in such a huge place you won’t get lost, the answer is no. Even from this perspective, as in other RPG games, active quests are marked on the map and we also have a jetpack and a teleportation system that helps.
Weak and discouraging combat
When we talk about the movement and fight, Elex II lost to other famous RPGs, the weapons are weak and have little impact or precision as if it was a hitbox poorly made and hard to adequate.
So, the mechanic can be a bit annoying and leave the players not so eager to continue, even more in a universe of RPG games so wide and interested.

The audio doesn’t disappoint and the graphics are below the expectations
With cool and good music and interactive dubbing (in English), which contrasts with the NPCs of other games, which usually are uninteresting, besides being antipathic, each one has a connection and function on the game, because of that the sound is a positive point. However, even though the game is new to a well-concurred gender, where usually we find well-done visual arts, Elex II has unpolished graphics and they weren’t prioritized. Even Jax has ugly clothes and no visual charisma.

Elex II is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows.
We that THQ Nordic studio for the code for us to play Elex II on PS5.
