Kevin Spacey was "strange" on the set of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
The director of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Glen Schofield, revealed details about the behavior of Kevin Spacey behind the scenes of the 2014 game. Although the actor delivered a convincing performance as the villainous CEO of the Atlas Corporation, his behavior off camera was questioned.
In an interview, Schofield recalled moments of discomfort on set. "He got a little weird once in a while on set. He would say things that just weren't appropriate. We all had to pretend to laugh," said the director. He also described the actor as "a little more difficult" and that he would isolate himself in a trailer that the production had to provide.
Despite the behavior behind the scenes, Schofield praised Kevin Spacey's performance in front of the cameras, saying: "When he was on set, and we said 'action', he was unbelievable. He's just a great actor, right?" Schofield emphasized that Spacey, known for his role as Frank Underwood in the House of Cards series on Netflix, had trouble understanding that "videogames weren't his thing."
Sledgehammer Games planned a sequel to Advanced Warfare that could have brought Spacey's character back. However, Activision rejected the proposal, which turned out to be a providential decision for the studio.
"We were going there," said Schofield, "and I'm glad we didn't go, because it was like two months before our release when the scandal broke." Activision's decision to reject the proposal spared the studio from a major public relations problem.
Sledgehammer Games dodged a public relations problem by having the proposal for a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare rejected by Activision. Do you believe that Sledgehammer Games would have handled the situation well if the scandal involving Kevin Spacey had occurred after the release of Advanced Warfare 2?
