Mechanic Battle is simple, classic and good | Review

New, but well-known
Mechanic Battle is a single-player game published by MobilWay on May 25, 2022, by Nintendo Switch. The game seeks to challenge the player to build the best car and compete in several races of different modalities, with the difficulty increasing as we advance.

As a first observation, there is a similarity with the famous Supercars 2, in terms of camera colocation (from the bottom to top) and gameplay, mixed with mechanics issues, as in Cr Mechanic Simulator. After all, is there a better place to revive a classic than in a Nintendo console?

First challenges

As I mentioned before, Mechanic Battle has a different aspect in the camera, especially for people who love famous race gamers, like Forza, The Crew, and others, that are played in a third or first-person, depending on the player, because here the vision is going to be on top, a little bit challenging but you get used to it.

After that, the problem is going to be choosing one vehicle with the money available in the game, 20 million, allowing us to buy a few cars, each one has an ugly painting and doesn’t have any equipment, but, it’s still possible to win racers with it.

Here I’m going to give an important tip, at the end of the racers we win awards, but, if your machine is ugly, without wheels, with a bad painting, there is going to happen a reduction of valor and consequently, is going to be harder to raise money. So, you have to invest in the appearance too, this is going to help a lot.

Some options

After you prepare your vehicle, we are going to our first race, but here you’ll find some options to progress, the Race more, a normal run, Hot, where you don’t care about your position and the only thing that matter is who makes the fastest round and, finally, the Elimination, where the last place of each turn is eliminated until only two cars are disputing the first place. Remember, all the modes have 6 pilots, we start at the last place, and we have to run all these modes at least once.

Explaining it, there is a final mode for each tier, that variates as you advance, can being an amateur, pro or legend, each one has cars more advanced and consequently more expensive, that’s why the reward is bigger, you won’t have difficulties, not even in the racers more “difficult”. Anyway, this is the Championship mode, and to advance we have to win a certain number of racers that are easily unblocked.

In this context, the championship works well, as the Formula 1, in which every racer has a position and adds a certain quantity of points, that way, the one who has more points, in the end, wins the champion cup, and in this case, unblocks a new tier.

A mechanic work

One of the most important parts of the game, as the name says, is the mechanic of our vehicle, here, you’ll see a more interesting part of your gameplay, at least it was this way for me, exploring these mechanisms can be fun.

First, the customization is essential, as I mentioned before the reason, and it’s not all when we equip tires and airfoils, we are going to face the challenge of calibrating a tire in the right timing and screw fitting as fast as we can, this is going to reward us when we do it right, the car is going to gain some points that help a lot on the race.

After that, we are going to see, at least for me, something new and complex, we can calibrate several vehicle parts, for example, the breaks, and this is going to bring significant changes during the races, it’s worth giving attention to it and exploring too.

Lastly but not least, this is more common, with a certain quantity of money we can equip the car with better components, that is, the motor, tires, nitro, and others, it’s worth to do it since these details significantly collaborate to the power of your machine.

Technical details are not details

Mechanic Battle has good gameplay, and it’s a simple game, with this I want to say that the game isn’t long, we can see all the details in a short time, and unfortunately, it doesn’t have many options for the players.

In that perspective, the sound details, as the graphics, are not the high point here, this is because the noise is pretty basic, it has standard background music and a racing sound when cars accelerate, brake, and crash.

Apart from that, the Mechanic arts aren’t ugly, but it’s simplistic, as something launched in 2022, despite being for a not so potent console, we expect an appropriate quality standard, here everything is simple, the cars don’t scratch or suffers any damage when they crash, the maps aren’t that variate, to give you a better example, when you are arriving at the pro level, the second one, you’ll have the feeling of experienced all the maps.

The name drew attention

When I started, I saw the name and keep asking myself the motivation behind “battle” in it, so I analyzed and observed during the entire game looking for a reason, and when I did this, I found some possibilities, but none was plausible.

First, since it has some options of mechanics for a car, I thought that was a competition to see who makes the best car, but, with a simple and less equipped car you can win the racers easily, you just have to avoid crashing the max as you can, because your adversaries are not Ayrton Senna or Lewis Hamilton, they hit the wall all the time, so, I continued in my search since there isn’t necessary a powerful machine to win.

After that, I started to observe the crashes, some were bad and even piled up cars in the same sharp curve, in case you like a more aggressive style, to became an adversary pilot is a simple task and will guarantee a lot of advantages, but it was not what happened every time, especially in the elimination mode, where it had a few cars and was almost impossible to crash, besides this confronts being something common in almost every game of this genre. So, I accepted the name as an attention-grabbing logo, but I still don’t fully understand the mission.

Lack of challenges

As I mentioned, the entire game is something simple, it’s not hard to advance, win the money for the components, and even complete advanced tiers. This way, I felt a tremendous lack of will to continue the game when I saw the sameness, that is, despise changing the level, the only changes that I could see were the car painting, because not even on the maps the difficulty doesn’t change, it’s possible to complete the championships fast.

The creator still tried, they placed some different races options, especially the one that wins the record holder, something really interesting, or with a variety of machines on the vehicle, but, the most important one, the races are easy to win, you just have to be simple, you don’t need to be a born pilot, most of the times you don’t need to use the nitro available. It’s good to remember, that there aren’t difficulty options, easy, medium, or hard.

About the gameplay

When I start to play a game, I always start with a good mood, even more, when in a racing game that reminds a classic one and this time wasn’t different, I search to explore all the aspects and understand everything to deal with challenges in the best way. However, at some point, you’re going to be discouraged, I think it’s because of the lack of challenges together with the sameness.

Lately, all the games launched in this genre have a similar style, changing a few details, even the famous ones of the genres lack in this aspect, but, when I saw a different camera system, I created a certain expectative of something different, unfortunately, the game didn’t correspond to my expectation, the game isn’t bad, the gameplay is really good, but it’s more of the same.

Mechanic Battle is available for Nintendo Switch.

Good

Mechanic Battle has good gameplay and it’s valid to explore for the ones who love the racer game, but the lack of challenges and the simplicity of details can be a discouraging factor.
