Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a game from the Harry Potter saga focused on Quidditch. Developed by Unbroken Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Games, and released on September 3, 2024, the game will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and Epic).

The champion's path

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the highly anticipated by fans, Quidditch game from the Harry Potter universe, something that was expected to be integrated into the other title, "Hogwarts Legacy", but ended up not coming as a mode and instead as an exclusive game. And to better understand, we have to understand a little bit of how the "sport" works.

Quidditch is quite simple, wizards flying on their brooms have 2 methods of scoring, hitting the ball called goals in the middle of one of the 3 hoops of the opposing team, scoring 10 points, a function performed by the chasers, or catching the golden snitch, a function performed by the seekers, which unfortunately does not guarantee victory in the game, but gives some extra points compared to hitting the hoops.

We also have the goalkeepers, whose obvious function is to protect the hoops and also the beaters, who use bats and whose function is to hinder the other players of the opposing team by using their clubs to hit the bludgers and make them hit an opposing player, or even hit them directly.

And the game also brings various characters known from the books such as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy and various other characters that I didn't even know flew on a broom, all in arenas in places also very well known from the saga, such as the classic Hogwarts arena or even one in the Weasley's backyard.

But if you are the type of person who likes to experience the story with your own character, don't worry, the game has a whole character creation system, where you can create your own avatar and even choose the house, clothes, and broom skin that he will use.

And this can be a very cool detail, because the game has a cooperative mode, both in the campaign and also in PvP mode, so imagine you and a group of friends, each with their own character within this universe competing in championships.

How do you fly in this thing?

The game mechanics vary according to each function during the match, something that I found really cool is that each one has unique mechanics, the seeker for example, has a whole system of being able to cancel the stamina consumption of the broom's dash by passing through the golden hoops that appear when he is chasing the golden snitch, and also during the chase, he can charge a bar around the snitch that when complete allows him to catch it.

The goalkeeper for example has a different camera from the others, he is practically fixed in the goal and can move sideways to defend the hoops and kick the ball when thrown to score, and the function that I found most fun was the beater, who can catch the bludgers and attack the opposing team, including the goalkeeper, to incapacitate them and make it easier for your own team to score.

Then you tell me, "wow, it seems quite simple", and it is, at the same time that at first this is good because it makes learning a lot easier, and if you're not careful, after the first match without a tutorial, you already understand everything, after a while it gets a bit boring, because even though the game has a certain variety of tactics, after a few matches things get a bit monotonous.

Another problem I had during gameplay was that the game's camera, after some time, started to make me dizzy and nauseous, as you have to move a lot depending on which position you are playing, with some sudden 180-degree turns, the camera movement is very fast, so that ended up happening to me.

But overall, the game is fun, I believe it's not one that you play for hours on end like Dota 2 or Valorant, but something that resembles a bit the type of matches we have in Rocket League, which sometimes, with the camera movement, can make Quidditch Champions a bit more tiring.

Catch the snitch

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is very beautiful, even though it doesn't have the hyper-detailed graphics of Hogwarts Legacy, choosing to go in a different direction with the game's art in the end was a good choice and it worked out well, the aesthetic gives a more relaxed atmosphere and an arcade game vibe.

The game's graphics and sound effects are also very good, when you attack an opponent, pass through the hoops, and dash, or even when you score or receive a point, in all these moments the effects were crucial to give an extra boost to the gameplay that can sometimes be too calm.

The game does not have a story, don't expect to discover anything beyond the lore of the Harry Potter World, in the campaign mode you play thematic championships, whether from the Weasley house, the Hogwarts house cup, or even the Triwizard tournament, but nothing related to anything beyond the Quidditch game.

Just like Hogwarts Legacy, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions also has a way to connect with the Harry Potter fan club website to be able to customize the game a little more and also unlock more content for the website itself, just link both accounts and receive the rewards.

Finally, we can conclude that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is indeed a fun game, but casual, which makes us think that it could be a game mode present in Hogwarts Legacy.

We especially thank Warner Bros. Games for providing us with the game at its launch so that this content could be possible.
