From De Leon to Dante! Curiosities about Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry is one of the great successes of the PlayStation 2 era, and because it was something very different, which brought a new genre to the world of games, the game from Capcom has several curiosities, from its plot to its development, which may have been a bit confusing at first, but turned out well!

The origin of the game is already an important point, since before being the game that was released, Devil May Cry was supposed to be a completely different project.

A project that became 2!

Devil May Cry was supposed to be a new game in the Resident Evil franchise. When Capcom decided to start developing Resident Evil 4, they sent Hideki Kamiya and his team to Spain to study some important points of the country and from there, draw inspiration to create the plot of the game. When Hideki returned and presented his story to Shinji Mikami (The creator of the franchise), Mikami felt that that project was straying too far from the series' standards, so Capcom decided to cancel the project in the Resident Evil universe, but that idea was too good to simply throw away, and because of that the developers decided to carry on with the project, thus producing a new title. And so Devil May Cry was born!

References in which the game feeds on!

The name Dante and also the name Vergil were taken from the classic Italian book called ‘‘The Divine Comedy”. This book was written approximately between the years 1304 and 1314. In this work, Dante goes on a spiritual journey through the three realms of the afterlife, with Vergil as his guide. It is worth noting that in DmC (reboot) that is exactly what happens, with Dante being guided by his brother Vergil through the spiritual world.

Another connection of this work with the franchise is that in the story of the book, Dante and Vergil meet Cerberus in the third level of Hell. And in Devil May Cry 3, Dante encounters Cerberus in the third mission of the game.

The hidden multiplayer!

Continuing in Devil May Cry 3, In the penultimate mission of the game, in the battle of Dante and Vergil against Arkham, if a second controller is plugged in and Start is pressed, whether in the original version of PlayStation 2 or in the HD version of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, player 2 can control Vergil! The same goes for the doppelganger game mode, where the second player takes control of Dante's shadow.

Changes in development!

The antagonist Arkhan was originally called Hyne, however the voice actor of Dante, Reuben Langdon, thought that the name would not result very well in the English version of the game, so he convinced Capcom to change it. And another character who had a different name from what we know in the final version of the game is Jester who was called Joker.

Even though the game is quite old, you can still play it on current platforms, so if you haven't played it yet, it's very worth it, especially since it is one of the fans' favorite games from Capcom, to have a remake in the not too distant future
