Apple announced significant changes to its guidelines on the App Store, paving the way for the global availability of retro emulators. In a recent update to the app review guidelines, the tech giant stated that users are now allowed to download games from retro emulators, with developers being responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws and guidelines.

Furthermore, Apple updated its rules regarding mini games and mini apps, specifying that when integrated into apps like WeChat, they must be developed using HTML5 technology.

This change follows other recent changes in Apple's policy, including allowing game streaming apps and adapting to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union. The latter allows alternative app payments and app store options on Apple devices.

However, Apple is facing legal challenges, including a civil antitrust lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice, alleging antitrust violations. Additionally, the European Commission is investigating the company, along with Google and Meta, for possible DMA infractions as part of a broader investigation into business practices in the tech industry.
