Enhancing an established franchise.
Another addition arrives to the much-explored FPS world. That said, innovation is a must to build on success. And in this case, it's kinda obvious, given the huge success of the previous game. That said, in Call of Duty Modern Warfare II we will be going in a global squadron of iconic veterans and also new legends integrating clandestine missions. These operators will carry the campaign on their backs along with a surprisingly good narrative.

Speaking of innovations, the game, recently released on October 28, 2022, produced by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, comes with revolutionary gameplay for big fans, with completely new weapon management, an advanced artificial intelligence system, a new arsenal, and a number of other graphical and gameplay innovations that promise to elevate the franchise even further. Launched with a fully immersive campaign that spans throughout the globe, we will pass through diverse scenarios and countries fighting enemies, as well as an immersive multiplayer system and a cooperative experience focused on the narrative.

Infinity Ward is an American game development company founded in 2022 and Call of Duty was the company's first title (great debut, huh?). In 2003 the company was acquired by Activision, which was founded in 1979 and was the first independent distributor and developer of electronic games for consoles, thus quite revolutionary on the market. Its first products were cartridges for the famous Atari 2600.

Our characters are the main members of Task Force 141. all are well introduced and carry in their experience and a strong, individual protagonism. I can say that Ghost, for me, is my favorite, because his sense of power and courage are so strong that they give you creeps, which is enhanced by its grim visuals. That said, they are: the leader of the team, Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle ''Gaz'' Garrick, Sergeant ''Soap'' MacTavish, lone wolf Simon ''Ghost'' Riley, and Colonel Alejandro Vargas, along with Sergeant Rodolfo Parra, both from the Mexican Forces.

That being said, welcome to another addition to the Call of Duty universe, which, despite being a well-known name, showed us it still has the power to surprise and continue to dominate the scene for many years to come. To play it, you can purchase and access it through the platforms: Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.

Stop the Pigeon

The main campaign has a duration of about 6 hours, which I found particularly short since I'm really into this part of the game. As said, it will use all these the franchise's emblematic agents, demanding teamwork (in every moment, including, the characters encouraging each other to keep going in missions, telling you ''nice shot", for example), and, surprisingly, you will feel immersed and intrigued to complete the story which you can notice by the title that is a chase, either of a person or a weapon, in which we can choose the level of difficulty of difficulty, suiting the beginner and professional FPS player.

Just like in the previous game, the narrative will go through different and totally varied missions, with attacks on specific locations, and air protection. In that part, particularly, it was quite fun to control a satellite and use it for protection, using heat vision, night vision, different weaponry, etc., while the characters asked for your help over the radio. Also, in addition to these, there will be stealth missions, sniping with a precision rifle, and others.

The plot, in general, is standard. An Iranian extremist and leader of an armed group that threatens the United States, even using U.S. weaponry. In the missions, we control mainly Gaz and Soap, but we will always be supported by other teammates. These are the ''brains'' of the mission, giving us all the details and tasks of the mission, informing us of all the details and tasks.

Using the radio, an interesting mechanic was the dialogue option that appears in specific moments, in which we can choose the next speech of our character, opening a moment of interaction different from what we are used to. In the following, the missions always have the same goal, however, the maps are immense and allow unique moving.

It is possible to find alternative paths, with some exceptions, to achieve the same task. Besides this, the opponents were more intelligent, with very advanced artificial intelligence the enemy will sneak into gaps, and use obstacles to try to hit you by any means. In a mission right at the beginning, for example, I was shot through a ventilation hole.

Shooting, more shooting, and a pinch of shooting, in the smallest detail

About the graphics, testing with the console, more specifically the PS5, there is nothing to complain about, I did not notice even a single bug, and, at least for the platform I played, everything was very well optimized. To your knowledge, when we die, something that's very common depending on the difficulty chosen, the loading screen is almost nonexistent, although it is a mere detail, when we evaluate the graphics of a game, this transition system is very important.

It's not because there is no criticism that there is no praise, the details are extremely well done here, the characters, even the extras, and enemies, are very well characterized, and their features, and movements, are made to leave everything as realistic as possible. So, when we watch a cutscene, if a family member arrives while you are playing, they may well ask you: what kind of movie is this? This is because the visual beauty delivered by the developers is eerily realistic.

It is worth mentioning, in some of the missions, we went through scenarios that marked me a lot. One of the first was Amsterdam, the place is simply identical to the images we are used to seeing, the climate, buildings, people, and the bridge are all in bloom, for example, it looks like a picture from a postcard.

Another very striking one, personally, was the Mexican scenarios, the well-portrayed natural beauty of the country, with the beautiful mountains and the native people, even showing the bad side, such as the dominance of drug trafficking, because, in one of the scenes, it is shown bodies that were used as an example by the local cartel boss.

Very loud and not a bit silent

In war, obviously, the moments of calm and tranquility will be few, so a major concern in an FPS is going to be the sound, the effects, and the soundtrack since it is necessary to deliver to the player auditory feedback at least adequate. How so? It is necessary for each weapon to have its characterization, grenades, voices, and others, so the experience is truly complete.

The character's voices are very striking. At one point in the game, even with subtitles, I didn't need to read to recognize who was speaking, also counted an incredible dubbing and a very well done, encouraging factor to continue the campaign.

That said, I must talk about the communication in the middle of the missions, it is simply insane and gives me goosebumps! This is because we feel that we are literally in a situation of danger, and yet we can understand the command of the superiors who, despite literally yelling, they speak in an imposing and accurate manner, without running over each other, making it easier to understand.

Finally, the sound realism delivered by the developers is very admirable, the feeling of immersion is increasingly well-placed and the player feels more and more satisfied in this sense.

A bit about the Multiplayer

The multiplayer came without many surprises. A very established market within the Call of Duty franchises, after all, should not be that changed. There are basically two paths to take here, a faster/arcade style, and another a bit slower and more strategic. Here the impression I had was they tried to make an attempt at a Rainbow Six mode, which does not appeal so much to the audience of this franchise, who usually opt for a high-paced game, but for me, it is not that tactical and maybe worth their curiosity.

In this context, the mobility on MW2 received some updates that left it a little different from other games, with the implementation of new techniques and the removal of others. In addition, the perceived recoil of weapons is much greater than expected, making close and medium-distance combat a bit more extensive, so controlling this can be quite a task.

As for the maps, all are designed very well, with a special positive highlight for the Hotel, my favorite, and a negative one for the Border Crossing, which has been criticized by the community in general and is considered one of the worst maps in history. Anyway, this mode continues as one of the beloved of the FPS world, especially on consoles, and is very well evaluated by the gamer universe due to its proposed competitiveness and immersion.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II is available for Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.

We would like to thank Activision's PR team who provided the key for this game and made it possible to create this content.
