The bravest

To start our torment, first, we are going to understand how we got into this trouble. That happened because our character is a journalist that had received several denunciations about mistreatment in a psychiatric hospital and decided to investigate, would you go? I certainly wouldn’t. Anyway, the bravest man in the world goes to fulfill this mission, but he has no idea what is waiting for him or what is waiting for us.

During the gameplay you’ll find various collectible files that are going to confirm our suspicions, people are being tortured and killed at this place, and it’s up to us to denounce this place to the world: it’s also possible to access notes about this place written by our character.

The psychological in the darkness

Like in every terror game, Outlast scenario is completely horrifying and dark, even in places where has light remains dark, walls with blood and graphics considerably good for a terror game, bodies everywhere, and the need to be alert in every single moment to not be caught off guard, you’ll be tense and not able to relax even for a second. Besides these worries, we have to be alert with the camera batteries, the camera allows us to see in the dark with night vision, the batteries are consumed fast and we can find some in corners or on tables.

The difference between this game and the other terror games it’s that you won’t find any puzzles, big part of your mission you will find items that allow us to advance in the history, like fuses or turning on generators, remembering of course running away from people not so welcoming, hiding under the bed, closets or running as far as you can. In this part the game helps a lot and won’t let you confused as you advance, the path is straight and easy to understand, despite the constant fear of doing any movement.

Characters

As we advance in the narrative line, we will meet some individuals that are going to mark our trajectory, usually in a bad way, like the giant, the naked ones, and the crazy doctor, these guys will try to kill you in any possible way and give you chills when you listen their footsteps getting closer. There is also a priest, which is more complicated to know if he’s good or evil, or just another one who has gone crazy with all the suffering of that evil place, he’s going to be important in some parts, giving us tips of how we can escape, a tip, the closer you get to leave, more problems will appear and everything will be even more distant. Don’t worry, despite all the jumpscares, the game will end after around 5 hours of a normal run.

A warning for fear

Usually, horror games worry a lot about the audio, here is not different, because besides the horrifying environment sound, with screams, lines of people who are stuck in the hospital, including some laughs, and we are not counting some sinister voices of the main villains, in the tense moments you don’t know if you are more concerned with the “beast coming” or the loud music on your headphone. Turn on the fan, you are going to transpire more than anything, even if it’s not hot, because you are going to be tense. But, see the good side here, at least you are not going to be out off guard, except of course of the jumpscares, since the music will warn you when there’s danger.

Better with company

Even if this game is a singleplayer one, and of course, a horror one, if it’s possible to play Outlast broadcasting to some of your friends. I think no one like to be alone in a moment of horror, right? I’m going to leave a tip for everyone, invite someone and enjoy more, you are going to entertain them with your jumpscares.

Final part

Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, but when we are deepening in the story of this nightmare in the shape of a game, we became scared of how much filth and corruption are found in this place, with human tests and all, you have to fight against one enemy differently of what we use to find, let’s say that is less physical and consequences of these scientific experiences. Even if all this suffering, Outlast is worth it if you like the genre, it’s certainly one of the strongest points of the genre and is going to entertain you a lot.
