Music Racer: Ultimate - Racing on different beats | Review

Music Racer: Ultimate is a musical game that allows us to hear different rhythms and beats as we drive, released on March 4, 2022, developed and distributed by Abstract Art. The game was initially released in 2018 for PC, IOS, Nintendo Switch, Android, and PS4, and recently was released again with graphics improvements.
The first experience pleases

In the beginning, we receive the opportunity to choose a vehicleits color, and other features. The sound quality related to graphics gives us a good impression  and also hope, even more so with the innovation of playing while we listen to our favorite songs.

However, in the course of the gameplay, we face some difficulties. This is explained by the lack  of tutorials teaching us how to play, we have to learn everything on our own, entering into a  question of trial and error to advance.

Eye-catching visual

The game art is really impressive (there are so many combinations of neon and flashes that you have to decrease the brightness to avoid migraine) is well detailed and consumed by the game phases, but this excess in a certain point can cause pollution and sicken the player, in short gameplay, it’s possible to end everything around 4 hours, we can’t do all at once because of this nuisance.

Different gameplay and common controls

We only have to collect beats while we avoid obstacles, leaving everything less competitive, contrary to other rhythms games, in which the perfect timing brings phase success and also difficulties as we advance. The offered controls are common and very easy, is enough just to change the traffic lane with right and left buttons, yes, you don’t need to accelerate or brake. Despise the initial difficulty of understanding the functionality of the game, the game still lacks bigger challenges.

Audio is the strongest point

We couldn’t expect less of something created specifically aiming at the sound, but the innovation that we can use in our favorite songs is something cool and interactive. The system to gain rewards with these songs is an accumulating points system, in which we earn on average 1500 points per song reproduction. The most expensive car costs 100 hundred points, so, if you want to unlock everything in the game you have to play a lot.

Lack of challenges and narrative

The game doesn’t offer a lot of experiences that catch our attention or make us interested in story progression. We choose one song, that determines how the speed of the racer will be, motivation is unlocked tracks and cars, without a campaign to complete. Talking like that, it seems like an mp3 emulator where we only play the audio and don’t what’s on the screen.

Music Racer: Ultimate is available for PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

Thanks to the PR team at the Terminals platform for providing the key that allowed us to play Music Racer Ultimate.

Good

For a music game, the sound is good, but the game itself is not satisfying. The rewards are not rewarding, the levels are aggravating, and the menus and layout are confusing. Music Racer: Ultimate needed a lot more time in the oven to ensure that it was made available with quality, but for now it looks more like a mobile game on a big screen.
