The performance of Nintendo Switch 2 in Spain has established itself as the main indicator of vitality in the sector in 2025. Even with only six months of availability, the new hardware from Nintendo sold 323 thousand units, which represents more than double the volume recorded by the previous console in the same period. This technical pace suggests an efficient generational transition for the Japanese brand in the European territory.

The best-selling physical software in 2025 was EA Sports FC 26, which reached 450 thousand copies sold. Other standout titles include Mario Kart World with 256 thousand units and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which totaled 166 thousand copies. The maintenance of high volumes for catalog titles, such as the 82 thousand units of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, reinforces the resilience of Nintendo's intellectual properties.

The Playstation 5 ended the year as the best-selling platform, with 490 thousand units sold. However, the trajectory of Sony is subject to severe criticism. This is the second consecutive drop in annual sales, going from 550 thousand units in 2023 to 494 thousand in 2024 and now 490 thousand in 2025. This technical stagnation indicates an early saturation or lack of new hardware incentives for the Spanish consumer.

The situation of the Xbox Series in Spain is lamentable and requires a profound strategic review by Microsoft. With only 24 thousand units sold throughout the year 2025, the console was even surpassed by the old version of the Nintendo Switch, which moved 140 thousand units. The lack of commercial relevance of Xbox in the local physical market reflects a chronic failure in distribution or appeal of the ecosystem compared to competitors.

Despite the significant numbers of EA Sports FC 26, the physical market as a whole shows signs of excessive dependence on a few large titles. The distance between the soccer simulator and the fifth place, Assassin’s Creed Shadows with 62 thousand units in the PS5, reveals a market concentration that may harm the diversity of retail in 2026 if new releases fail to replicate the success of leading franchises.
