Alien Hominid Invasion is a platform game developed by The Behemoth. The game will be released for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X, and Series S on November 1, 2023.
Invading Earth
Alien Hominid Invasion is the latest pearl in The Behemoth's catalog, and as always, they deliver an experience that combines a crazy storyline with more frenetic and uncontrolled gameplay. In this game, the plot revolves around the unexpected visit of hominid aliens to Earth, with the mission to rescue a companion captured by the FBI. Sound insane? Well, that's exactly what you can expect from this game.
The story, full of satirical humor, is a perfect sample of The Behemoth's unmistakable style. Imagine an alien invasion seasoned with a quirky touch of humor, and you'll have an idea of what's in store. The plot has a fun tone that remains consistent throughout the gameplay.

Very similar to what we can find in other titles by The Behemoth, such as BattleBlock Theater and my beloved Castle Crashers, a game whose energy is very similar to that of Alien Hominid and which really marked my pre-adolescence, where I played for hours and hours with friends at the time.
The gameplay of Alien Hominid Invasion combines elements of classic Metal Slug in the best run-and-gun style with the unique identity of The Behemoth. As players, you take control of a hominid alien, heavily armed and determined to rescue his companion, facing a horde of FBI agents and various enemies.

The action is intense, and the chaos on screen is challenging and incredibly fun. As we progress through the game, we are confronted with stronger enemies and hilarious situations, keeping us glued to the screen eager for the next stage and joke. The Behemoth's humor is present in every aspect of the game, from the characters' dialogues to the interactions with enemies and the narrative itself.
In search of a friend
Cooperative gameplay is at the heart of the game, allowing you and up to three friends to face the alien invasion together. Where you're sure to experience moments of laughter, screams, and companionship (or not) as you shoot crazy enemies with gunfire and bombs everywhere. The Behemoth is known for creating co-op experiences, and Alien Hominid Invasion continues that tradition.
The cooperative side of the game is certainly the biggest highlight, because just like the other titles that follow the same line, even though you can play alone, the brilliance of the game really stands out, when I was younger and played Castle Crashers alone, it was fun, but not as much as playing with friends.
But the game certainly replicates other positive points of the old games, such as the strong replay factor, I felt the same sensation as when I was younger, even though I had already completed the campaign, I wanted to play again, sometimes to try out another character, a new weapon or just play with other friends I hadn't played with yet.

And still talking about the experience of playing with friends, it's quite funny really, although the game doesn't have a great deal of gameplay complexity, it turns out that because there are so many enemies on the screen, so many shots from both enemies and allies, everything ends up being more difficult, both because it's hard to differentiate enemy projectiles from allies, but also because sometimes you have a friend who insists on using the grenade repeatedly and only ends up hitting allies, and in the case of the grenade there is friendly fire.
But I don't see this as a negative point, not least because it's part of what makes the game so funny. Who hasn't played a cooperative game where you depend on your friend for something, but the moment you need them, they do something that will screw you over. Here in Alien Hominid Invasion, that feeling comes across well when you need to dodge a shot to avoid dying, but your friend thought it would be a good idea to throw a grenade in the middle of the 4 friends.

And the characters are a lot of fun, you can customize not only their weapons but also them, changing colors and choosing hats. The weapons also each have their own peculiarities, they can have less or more damage, changing the rate of fire and even the distance of the projectiles or whether it's a melee weapon, something that makes the gameplay very dynamic and helps with the replay factor of the game.
Explosions and... explosions
The distinctive graphic style is a very strong feature of the game, maintaining the visual tradition of The Behemoth. The characters have a peculiar aesthetic, and the game world is an explosion of colors and crazy visual elements. The Behemoth has a talent for creating surreal and differentiated worlds, providing a very distinctive visual experience.
Something that goes a long way to attracting players, because it's a unique style, which ends up combining well with the style of gameplay, which is more relaxed and also very eye-catching. It also contributes to how the game works, because as everything is so frenetic and colorful, it makes it easier for the player to differentiate things in the setting.
The effects, character details, and cutscenes were all very well done, all following the impeccable standard that The Behemoth has followed in all its major titles, and always very fluid, I didn't notice any errors in the cutscenes, nor any visual bugs or FPS drops when there were too many effects on the screen, something that tends to be common in even the most well-done games.

The game's sound effects are also very complementary, especially to the frenetic feel of the game, as the effects really match what's happening on the screen, but without stealing the whole scene, as they're just right so as not to hinder communication between the players or be boring, repetitive, which ends up making the game tiring.
In short, Alien Hominid Invasion is an injection of fun that will captivate both casual and hardcore gamers. Thanks to the cooperative gameplay and quirky humor, it will please both loyal players of The Behemoth and new players who are just getting to know the game and the company's style.
