Ereban: Shadow Legacy arrives with a slightly different proposal for the world of stealth games, instead of embracing slower and more deliberate gameplay, we are encouraged to play at a faster pace and always seek combat.

Main Features

Ereban: Shadow Legacy, developed by Baby Robot Games and published by Raw Fury, will be released on April 10, 2024, and is initially available for Microsoft Windows, with future availability for Xbox One and Series X.

This is an action-adventure game, completely focused on stealth, with interesting puzzles and movement mechanics, and a quite competent story, offering a set capable of entertaining for a long time.

The power of shadows

The story of Ereban: Shadow Legacy puts us in the shoes of Ayana, the last of her race, the Ereban. With that said, we begin the game inside a sort of laboratory where the game tutorial starts, teaching us basic mechanics and showing that we are being used as guinea pigs in a testing field.

Upon realizing that we are being used as test subjects and sort of going through a recruitment process, we use our abilities to merge with the shadows to escape.

Thus, we start on a very interesting journey as a stealthy assassin fleeing from this organization, playing at a very fast pace for stealth game standards, with combat and movement mechanics, which I will detail soon, being its best characteristics, in my opinion.

Combat and stealth

Regarding the combat in Ereban: Shadow Legacy, as I mentioned earlier, I believe it to be the game's greatest charm, as everything works at a faster pace, combat also has to be thought of with a bit more agility than normal, making us make decisions that are not always the best but do not prevent us from trying to evade enemies and stealthily take them down as soon as possible.

The combat and movement mechanics are based on a system of jumps, climbs, and traversing objects, when possible, with these mechanics responsible for giving us access to places that we cannot reach by just walking or jumping since when we merge with the shadows, we can climb and walk on walls, pass through wire fences and bars, as well as move more quickly, to either access items and mechanisms, or move to flank enemies and take them down.

It is important to point out that the game depends on items for progression, which are used in a kind of panel that unlocks new abilities and allows us to develop Ayana, with increased perception, new movement patterns, and combat improvements.

Despite the various possibilities of movement, it is worth noting that the game's combat is somewhat limited, as enemy perception is a funny factor, either they detect you with the slightest movement or do not detect you at all, I believe this to be a problem with the game's initial build, which should be resolved with the official release.

Therefore, it is only possible to eliminate enemies stealthily, despite the AI flaw, when the "conflicts" work properly, the combat becomes really satisfying. It is worth mentioning that it is also possible to avoid conflicts, like any good stealth game.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy is a project with a lot of personality, being a single-player game, which works in a linear way, it is a well-executed project and mainly fun, with nice graphics and good gameplay.

A promising release

The release of Ereban: Shadow Legacy will be a good addition to the games in the genre, I believe that due to the game's characteristics, the repetition factor will be greatly explored, in addition to the campaign delivering a satisfactory playtime, the blend of stealth and agility is a very good combination and was very well explored here, moving literally like a shadow and stealthily assassinating robots is always attractive, isn't it?

The game, overall, is easy to play, when we have the opportunity to play the tutorial, the vast majority of mechanics are already explained, and although some may seem a bit confusing at first contact, we quickly become familiar with them.

The game is localized in several languages, however, it only has English voice acting and lacks some languages that have considerable communities of fans and players, which is an extremely negative point that I want to emphasize.

The game's audio is very good, the voice acting is of quality, and the soundtrack is constant and well crafted, being a very important feature for immersion in Ereban: Shadow Legacy, especially during moments of tension and adrenaline.

An interesting yet limited experience

My experience with Ereban: Shadow Legacy was good for the most part of the gameplay, the game's optimization is very good, which adds a lot to its fluidity, as well as having good mechanics and an interesting story, however, I leave a negative point for some bugs that bothered me, such as the faulty artificial intelligence that I mentioned earlier, as well as some visual bugs, which, although they do not disrupt the game itself, end up being quite ugly.

In terms of quality of life, it is generally well done, the menus are intuitive, the interface is minimalist and still displays important information, and when the game needs to teach you something, it is done very organically.

For this review, the game was experienced on PC, using the Steam platform. I thank Baby Robot Games for providing the access key.
