Devil Inside Us: Roots of Evil, the "exorcist game", plunges players into a world of psychological terror, offering an intense and chilling experience. Developed by Mr. Skull Game Studio and published by QUByte Interactive, the game promises an engaging narrative and non-stop scares. Released in 2022 for PC, the game arrived on January 25th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Let's explore every aspect of this Brazilian horror game that seeks to exorcise the evil forces that plague a mysterious house.

Story - Demonic Possession and Redemption
The plot puts the players in the role of Father Aughust Heylel, a Vatican-trained exorcist with mediumistic powers. The story takes place in two different periods, 30 years apart, involving terrible crimes triggering supernatural events. Its narrative is strong, full of psychological elements and a plunge into the depths of evil, but with a certain incoherence in some of the notes found that break up the script.
The protagonist is summoned once again to face a threat that is believed to have been banished. The plot is shrouded in mystery, twists, and many jump scares, keeping players eager to discover the dark truth behind the events.

Graphics - Between Light and Shadows
Visually, Devil Inside Us: Roots of Evil presents a dense and sinister atmosphere. The settings, although limited in exploration, offer immersive detail, highlighting the duality between the real world and the supernatural.
However, the game lacks in illumination, making it challenging to find crucial items due to the excessive darkness. I recommend increasing the brightness of your monitor to improve the visibility of details that may go unnoticed in the dark.
The hand-drawn cutscenes add a unique touch to the narrative, filling in the gaps with images that help immerse you in the game's story.

Gameplay - Guided by Faith
The player takes control of an elderly priest whose combat is predominantly spiritual. Armed with a cross, Aughust faces enemies and expels demons from objects. The gameplay, although linear, offers intense challenges, requiring strategy in the administration of the "Faith".
Exploration is essential to find resources such as rosaries and medical kits, which are essential for facing the growing challenges. However, limited movement and excessive darkness can frustrate the experience, leaving the player blind at times.

Sound Effects - Sound Nightmares
The soundtrack and sound effects in Devil Inside Us: Roots of Evil are high points. Horrifying creatures and tense moments are intensified by well-executed scares and macabre sounds. The sound ambiance contributes significantly to the immersion, creating a palpable atmosphere of terror. The audio quality is fundamental to the experience, providing chills and keeping players alert to the dangers lurking within.
It is a game with a great central idea that, even with its imperfections, can leave a lasting impression on those who dare to face the unknown. A unique and frightening journey, recommended for brave explorers of the horror genre.
