Zelda Notes solves one of the biggest annoyances in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom: weapons breaking too much

If you, like so many players of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, have had that moment of frustration when seeing your favorite weapon breaking in the middle of combat, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Nintendo has finally listened to the community's pleas and brought a new feature that promises to change the game — literally. With the release of the new version of the titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 5, 2025, players will have access to a new feature: weapon repair through the companion app Zelda Notes.

That's right. The Zelda Notes app, which will be integrated into the Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystem, will offer players a series of unprecedented functionalities that go far beyond simple data management. Among the most celebrated is the daily bonus system, which can, among other advantages, allow for the repair of broken equipment, something unprecedented in the series.

"Possible rewards include restoring health, recharging energy, various meals, and repairing equipment," details the Eurogamer portal, which had early access to the tool's functions. However, there is a catch: each bonus can only be used once a day, and the available benefits are random, which means that the long-awaited option to repair that special sword may not be available every day.

In addition to the long-awaited repair function, Zelda Notes will also bring:

  • Achievement system, something unprecedented in the franchise so far;
  • Voice navigation, useful for those who explore the world of Hyrule in a more immersive way;
  • New unlockable memories, expanding the lore of the games;

And a simplified mechanism for capturing and sharing screenshots and videos, making life easier for content creators and fans who enjoy capturing their epic moments.

For veterans who already own the original versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on the Nintendo Switch, the update to the Switch 2 edition will cost $9.99. But beware: the updated edition of Breath of the Wild will not include the Expansion Pass, which must be purchased separately. This additional package contains essential content such as:

  • Trial of the Sword
  • Master Mode
  • Hero’s Path Mode
  • The Champions’ Ballad (with new missions, shrines, and additional story)

Even with this extra cost, players' response to the announcement has been mostly positive. After all, being able to keep your favorite weapon without it shattering after a few fights is an old dream of the franchise's fans. And with the Switch 2 promising considerable graphical and technical improvements, this new journey through Hyrule has the potential to be more epic — and less frustrating — than ever.

If Tears of the Kingdom was already an audacious evolution in terms of vertical exploration, physics, and creative freedom, the arrival of Zelda Notes reinforces that Nintendo is gradually refining the experience without abandoning the identity that made these games an industry milestone.

So, prepare your shield, reinforce your armor — and now, thankfully, firmly hold onto your favorite weapon. Because it can finally last.
