Xbox Series S is the villain? Black Myth: Wukong director reveals the reason for the delay on Xbox
The saga of Black Myth: Wukong, one of the biggest successes of 2024, continues with a dose of controversy in the console universe. While PlayStation 5 and PC players enjoy the epic adaptation of the Chinese classic, Xbox fans remain in limbo, with no release date for the highly anticipated title. But what happened?
The game director, during a statement after the success at the Steam Awards 2024, went straight to the point: the issue lies in the Xbox Series S hardware. "These 10 GB of shared memory... Without a few years of optimization experience, it's really impossible to solve," he said, suggesting that the console's limited capacity is hindering the desired performance for the game.
Issues with the Series S had already been mentioned by the developer Game Science, who justified the delay due to optimization difficulties. Nevertheless, the frustration of not releasing the game on all platforms seems to weigh heavily. "The Xbox cloak is missing. It feels a bit wrong," said the director, hinting that the absence on the Microsoft platform was not an easy decision.
Meanwhile, conspiracy theories also contributed to the chaos, with many suggesting that Sony had bought exclusivity. However, the director's public revelation dismantles these speculations, confirming that the issue is purely technical.
Black Myth: Wukong, developed by Game Science, is already a technical and artistic reference in 2024, with impressive graphics running on Unreal Engine 5 and challenging mechanics that have won over the public. The game has won several awards at the Steam Awards, but the absence on Xbox consoles remains a recurring theme.
The question remains: is the Xbox Series S, with its entry-level hardware, hindering multiplatform releases? Only time will tell, but the situation reignites debates about the impact of less powerful consoles in the market.
