Xbox Game Pass in May: Exclusive DOOM, important departures, and highs and lows

Liked by 0 people

The list of games leaving the Xbox Game Pass in May is considerable and should concern subscribers. On May 15th, the following titles will be removed from the service:

  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  • Chants of Sennaar
  • Dune: Spice Wars (Game Preview)
  • Hauntii
  • The Big Con

All are available for purchase with up to 20% off, which has become standard in the service's exit cycles.

On the additions side, the month is full of heavy titles, with two standout releases arriving on Day One: DOOM: The Dark Ages and Revenge of the Savage Planet.

DOOM: The Dark Ages, from id Software and published by Bethesda, is the new prequel of the franchise and debuts on Game Pass on May 15th. The game takes the player to a science fiction universe with a medieval setting, chronologically before the events of DOOM (2016). The most curious novelty is the use of a shield as the main weapon - a significant change in the series' dynamics.

Meanwhile, Revenge of the Savage Planet, which arrives on May 8th, is the sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet, originally released in 2020 by Typhoon Studios. According to the analysis by Robert Purchase from Eurogamer, the game "is not as bold and carefree as it would like to be," which may indicate a more contained experience than the original.

The month of May reflects the current duality of the Xbox Game Pass: while continuing to bet on heavyweight premieres in the subscription model, it also intensifies the rotation of titles, which requires extra attention from subscribers. The model of entries and exits seems to keep the service moving, but it can compromise those who prefer more lasting experiences in the catalog.
