Xbox expands physical-to-digital conversion test

Ensuring flexibility of access by allowing physical media to obtain digital licenses without invalidating the disc is a commendable advancement in preservation and convenience for those who invest in the platform. Microsoft has taken another step in rolling out the new game conversion system for Xbox, making the tool available to participants in the Delta and Omega rings within the Xbox Insider program.

The update was released last Tuesday (1st), with the note that users recently registered at the Omega level may experience a slight delay in receiving the update on their consoles.

With this recent distribution, the functionality technically reaches all testing levels of the Xbox Insider ecosystem, after having passed through the previous phases in the Alpha, Alpha Skip-Ahead, and Beta rings.

The system operates by allowing the user to insert a compatible physical disc into the drive to redeem the corresponding digital license on the linked account.

Through this process, the player gains access to features associated with the company's digital ecosystem, like support for Xbox Play Anywhere and streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming, provided that the developer has enabled these functions for the specific title.

An important aspect of the system's mechanics is that the physical disc is not invalidated after linking, maintaining its normal functionality for reading in traditional drives.

Reaching the final stages of the testing program indicates that Microsoft is preparing for the public launch of the feature for all Xbox owners in the global market.
