Valorant celebrates its 5th anniversary and video rekindles requests for an animated series
The celebration of five years of Valorant, completed on June 2, 2025, was marked by an animated video released by Riot Games that, more than celebrating the milestone, reignited the community's requests for a series in the style of Arcane, based on the universe of League of Legends.
The animated short, just over four minutes long, features a polished visual style and artistic direction close to the standard established by the award-winning Netflix series. The narrative focuses on the character Mary Ade, sister of the agent Phoenix, offering a small sample of lore that was enough to stir up social media with requests for a more robust animated adaptation.
The original music, another highlight of the production, was praised by fans and complemented the overall aesthetic of the video, which quickly generated thousands of mentions on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and YouTube, where users began tagging the official profiles of Riot requesting that the project evolve into an animated series or even a feature film.
"We want to see the agents come to life in a series like Arcane. The potential for stories is gigantic," wrote a user on Reddit, in one of the most liked comments in the discussion. Another highlighted: "The video was just a tease. Riot needs to invest more in this universe outside of competitive gameplay."
So far, Riot Games has not officially commented on the possibility of turning the material into something bigger, but the studio has previously shown interest in expanding its IPs to other media. With the critical and commercial success of Arcane, it would not be surprising to see Valorant receiving a similar treatment in the future, especially if the reception to the commemorative animation remains positive.
Valorant, originally released in 2020, is a free competitive FPS game, with a 5v5 match structure and a focus on tactical mechanics and unique abilities per agent. The game quickly established itself as one of the biggest titles in the genre, accumulating millions of active players and becoming a pillar in the esports and streaming scenes.
The commemorative video not only celebrates the game's journey, but also raises a recurring question within the community: why hasn't Riot expanded the universe of Valorant to audiovisual, as it did with League of Legends? The answer may lie in tests like this short film, whose impact could directly influence the studio's next steps.
