Updates from Deadlock are expected to decrease in the coming months!

Since it was shown to the world, Deadlock has been receiving updates every 2 weeks, and along with the closed beta happening, player feedback has certainly helped the team make the game better and better in a very short amount of time, however, this pace is not sustainable in the long term and Valve Corporation is starting to make its moves to change that.

"As we start 2025, we will adjust our update schedule to help improve our development process," says a Valve developer who goes by Yoshi on the game's official Discord. "While it has been very helpful for us at the beginning, we found that our fixed two-week cycle made it harder for us to iterate on certain types of changes internally, and sometimes didn't allow enough time for the changes to settle externally before the next update arrived.

"Moving forward, major patches will no longer have a fixed schedule," Yoshi adds. "These patches will be larger than before, though a bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We are looking forward to developing the game in the new year."

The characters in Deadlock were adjusted with each new update, with balance always well placed, which in a way is good for the game, as tyrannical characters don't remain overpowered for too long, but the player needs to stay more focused on the game, as their character can be aggressively nerfed if they spend time away from the game.

Although it may seem counterintuitive, longer wait times for updates will mean that the changes made in Deadlock will remain for longer, giving developers more time to polish them. Most players also seem to understand this and support the developers and their decision to slow down their pace.

Which makes sense, as many players may start abandoning the game because of the chaos of mass updates and character changes, as keeping up with patch notes is not as cool as it sounds!
