Update of Days Gone Remastered improves graphics and audio
The remastered version of Days Gone received a new update on PlayStation 5, bringing important technical fixes, graphic adjustments, and audio improvements, after community criticism about loss of quality compared to the retrocompatible version of PS4. The highlight of the patch is the addition of a new graphic mode called "Balanced", designed to take better advantage of televisions with 120Hz and VRR.
The Balanced mode seeks a middle ground between resolution and fluidity: on PS5, the game runs at 1800p with a refresh rate of 40 frames per second (FPS). Meanwhile, on PS5 Pro, which uses PSSR for output at 4K (2160p), the same mode also delivers 40 FPS. The VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) is now automatically enabled for compatible displays, but there is no specific setting within the game — you need to activate the feature in the console's system settings.
This change responds to the frustration of some players who pointed out a drop in resolution when compared to the PS4 version running via backward compatibility, even with performance at 60 FPS. The addition of the intermediate mode is an attempt to restore the lost visual balance.
Furthermore, the update improves the overall performance:
- Reduction in input lag in all rendering modes
- Optimizations in asset loading and streaming
- Fixes for crashes and bugs
- The map is no longer locked at 30 FPS
- In terms of audio, the adjustments aim to correct unbalanced volumes and enhance immersion:
- Improved overall sound mixing
- More audible dialogues in rescue events
- Louder and more intense Freakers sounds
- Enemy weapons with more threatening sound effects
- Fixed excessively loud sounds while riding the bike
Other improvements include:
- Gyro aiming (motion sensor aiming) working correctly
- Fixed bug that darkened the screen when exiting the map
- Adjustments in the Horde Assault mode, fixing horde navigation failures and a sound that stopped playing after 30 minutes of gameplay
According to Bend Studio themselves:
"This new mode will only be visible to users with a TV or monitor that supports 120Hz. To enable VRR, it must be activated in the PS5 system settings."
Originally released in 2019, Days Gone is one of Sony's exclusives that has divided opinions the most, and its remastered re-release still faces resistance — especially due to the absence of a direct sequel. However, this update is an important step for those who want to revisit Deacon St. John's journey with a more solid experience on PS5.
