Update 2.0 of Starfield is expected to arrive only in March

The expected technical overhaul of Starfield will not show up in the next Sony State of Play. According to insider shinobi602, in discussions on the ResetEra forum, Bethesda does not plan to make announcements for the space RPG in the short term, frustrating those who expected an immediate reveal in February. The statement "that's all for next month" indicates that concrete news about patch 2.0 and the alleged PlayStation 5 version should be reserved for March, keeping the title silent during this week's events.

The 2.0 update is being treated behind the scenes as a technical relaunch, focusing on optimizing loading times and refining mechanics that were criticized in the original release. This move would facilitate portability to the Sony console, serving as a kind of "definitive edition" to attract new players. On the other hand, the Switch 2 version faces a pessimistic scenario; information suggests that hardware difficulties may have led to the delay or even cancellation of the port to the Nintendo platform.

From a critical point of view, this news is a necessary reality check for those who still believe in optimistic schedules from Bethesda. It is positive that the company is working on a 2.0 version to fix what should have been delivered at launch, but the silence in February is a negative point for maintaining the hype. It's funny to note how Starfield has become the "eternal traveler": while desperately trying to find a new audience on the PS5, it seems to be missing the ride to Nintendo hardware due to pure technical limitations of the Creation Engine.

If the 2.0 update is not robust enough to change the general perception of the game, the release on PlayStation 5 will just be a bureaucratic attempt by Microsoft to recover the investment. The fact that the Switch 2 may not handle the game is a warning of how heavy (or poorly optimized) the base code still is. Caution is the only tool left to the fan, as promising a "new cycle" is easy; delivering a universe that doesn't tire the player in 20 hours is the true technical challenge that Bethesda has yet to prove they have overcome.
