In a collaboration movement aimed at the "open metaverse", Unity and Epic Games announced a partnership to integrate games made in Unity into the Fortnite ecosystem. The agreement creates a new and significant opportunity for developers to access the over 500 million registered accounts of Fortnite and participate in its Creator Economy.

Matt Bromberg, President and CEO of Unity, emphasized the importance of the partnership: “We are excited to partner with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world. Choice and open systems create growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem.”

Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO of Epic Games, reinforced the shared vision: “Just as in the early days of the web, we believe that companies need to work together to build the open metaverse in an interoperable and fair way. By working alongside Unity, we are helping developers to build fun games, reach larger audiences, and find success.”

The announcement was made during the Unite, Unity's Annual Developers Conference. At the same time, Unity revealed that it will add support for the Unreal Engine to its cross-platform commerce platform. The tool will allow Unreal developers to manage their digital catalogs, payment providers, and virtual stores on PC, mobile, and web, with support for pricing, promotions, and live operations starting from the beginning of next year.

Additional details about the Unity and Epic Games partnership and product timelines will be shared next year.
