Ubisoft predicts revenue decline: Players are buying fewer games

Ubisoft postponed the presentation of its new financial report, but expectations have already been adjusted for a revenue decline in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026. According to the strategic report from the previous fiscal year (ended in March 2025), the company attributes the decrease to a change in consumer behavior.

The analysis from Ubisoft UK suggests that the traditional model of selling games for 59 euros or 69 euros is "much less universal than before". Players would be "playing fewer games" and "playing them for longer periods", focusing on a small number of super popular titles.

Ubisoft points out that services like PlayStation Plus and Game Pass, along with free-to-play titles and games as a service, reduce consumers' willingness to buy new games at launch.

As a result of this new scenario, the majority of new games are struggling in the market, with "only a few notable exceptions" escaping the challenge.

Investors are already expecting a drop in sales and revenue in the financial report for the quarter between July and September 2025 and for the first half of the current fiscal year. In addition, Ubisoft recently separated its properties and put them in a new subsidiary, formed with Tencent, which includes the Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six Siege, and Far Cry series. This reorganization is expected to result in additional revenue declines for Ubisoft.

Ubisoft postponed the release of the financial results and foresees a revenue decline by March 2026, attributing the issue to the change in consumer behavior. According to Ubisoft UK, services like PlayStation Plus and Game Pass and the focus of players on "playing fewer games for longer periods" have made the selling model at 59 euros or 69 euros less viable. The split of franchises like Assassin's Creed into a new subsidiary with Tencent is also expected to impact the revenues.
