Ubisoft demands full in-person return for teams
The Ubisoft has announced, alongside its restructuring into Creative Houses, the intention to require all employees to return to in-person work five days a week. The measure, which only allows for a limited annual quota of days working from home, was confirmed by the Senior Vice President of Operations, Marie-Sophie de Waubert, and CFO Frederick Duguet. The leadership justifies the decision as a necessity to increase collective efficiency and problem-solving at high speed in the AAA segment.
Although the company promises to make the transition through dialogues with unions and representatives in different countries, the change comes at a time of cuts and internal restructuring. Ubisoft follows in the footsteps of Rockstar, which implemented a similar policy in 2024. According to the executives, in-person collaboration is seen as a fundamental pillar for the company to regain commercial success and creative quality in an increasingly selective market.
"The goal is really linked to the quality of our games and the quality of our creativity"
"Collective dynamics, permanent knowledge sharing, solving problems together at high speed is critical in this AAA business world"
The imposition of mandatory in-person work ignores the flexibility gained in recent years and risks increasing talent turnover in a company already facing project cancellations and administrative instability.
