The gaming industry is about to witness one of the biggest investments in Ubisoft history. In an ambitious strategic move, the French giant announced a new subsidiary valued at $4.3 billion (approximately R$24 billion), which will bring together the developers of its biggest franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

But the big surprise comes from the financing of this endeavor. Tencent, the Chinese colossus in the technology and entertainment sector, will invest $1.1 billion (approximately R$5.7 billion) in the project, guaranteeing a 25% stake in the new company.

What to expect from Ubisoft's new division?

The proposal of Ubisoft's new subsidiary is clear: to turn its most successful franchises into "undisputed global icons", as CEO Yves Guillemot stated. The studio will bring together talents from various offices of the company, including Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.

"The terms of this partnership are straightforward: we will establish a dedicated subsidiary within Ubisoft that will bring together our three most powerful franchises. This new structure will strengthen our brands and open up opportunities for even more innovative multi-platform experiences." — Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.

The company promises greater integration among the teams responsible for Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, optimizing development and enabling a more efficient flow in the production of new titles.

Why did Tencent invest so much in Ubisoft?

Tencent is not only injecting capital but also seeking a stronger position in the global gaming market. With a 25% stake in the new subsidiary, the Chinese company gains more influence over some of the most popular Western franchises today.

This could mean not only expanding games to different platforms but also a greater focus on the Asian market, where titles like Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six Siege already have a solid fan base.

What's coming next?

Ubisoft will hold an internal presentation tomorrow (28) at 11:30 am (Brasília time), to explain to employees the details of the project and the next steps. Studio head Marie-Sophie de Waubert has already stated that the company does not yet have "all the detailed answers", but guaranteed "transparent and regular communication" throughout the process.

While we await more information, one thing is certain: with a billion-dollar investment and such a massive structural overhaul, the upcoming releases of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six promise to take these franchises to a new level.
