The Zelda movie begins filming in New Zealand
The film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has finally moved out of the pre-production phase and started filming in Wellington, New Zealand. The updated record in the database of the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA) confirms the start of production in a country known for hosting great works of fantasy.
The main cast has already been decided, and the film will feature Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. According to content creator Mike Odyssey, who posted the information on social media, the casting process has already been completed, and the studio is expected to announce the other names soon.
The filming is set to continue until early April 2026, taking place almost entirely in the Wellington region.
Mike Odyssey also speculated that the first teaser of the film could be released in February 2026, aligning with the 40th anniversary of the franchise The Legend of Zelda, celebrated on February 21.
The feature film is a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony Pictures. The premiere of The Legend of Zelda in the cinemas is scheduled for May 7, 2027.
