The Witcher 4: CD Projekt Red warns about scams involving fake beta of the game

Once again, the hype around The Witcher 4 has been exploited by scammers. In recent days, there have been reports of alleged invitations to a closed beta of the highly anticipated RPG from CD Projekt Red, but the developer itself had to publicly intervene to refute the information. The promise of early access to the next chapter of the monsters and magic saga is nothing more than a fraud, and the Polish company made that very clear in an official statement.

"We are taking the necessary steps to end these fraudulent messages," declared CD Projekt Red on their social media. "That said, if you receive any invitation or come across news of one, we ask you to report the scam using the tools available in your email client or on the social media platform you are using. Remember: professional monster slayers do not fall for scams; they see through them and kill them!"

The warning comes after several players reported, on forums and social networks, receiving emails inviting them to allegedly official beta tests. Some of the invitations closely mimicked the communication style of CDPR, which reinforces the opportunistic nature of the fraud — especially at a time when anticipation for the game is growing.

Despite the fake invitations, it is true that The Witcher 4 is in development. The project, codenamed Polaris, was officially confirmed in March 2022, as part of a more ambitious roadmap from CD Projekt Red that includes multiple projects in the universe of The Witcher and Cyberpunk. However, the game only began to be produced at an accelerated pace in early 2024, after the conclusion of support for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

The first official glimpse of The Witcher 4 came during The Game Awards 2024, with a trailer that, although mysterious, confirmed what many fans already suspected: Ciri will be the protagonist of this new journey. The teaser showed brief scenes of frozen landscapes, ancient ruins, and a female figure wielding the silver sword of the witchers. With no gameplay revelations or exact release date, the studio only indicated that the title is planned to arrive starting in 2027.

Furthermore, The Witcher 4 is being built with the Unreal Engine 5, instead of the proprietary graphic engine REDengine, used in previous games of the franchise. The technology change was made in partnership with Epic Games, with the promise of offering richer, more dynamic, and visually stunning worlds, optimized for the new generation of hardware.

Given all of this, the warning stands: there is no ongoing beta for The Witcher 4, and any invitation in this regard is fake. Fans should stay alert, follow only the official channels of CD Projekt Red, and of course, keep their precaution potions ready. After all, as the developer itself said: "Professional monster slayers do not fall for scams." And we, players, shouldn't either.
