The second season of Fallout, a series from Prime Video, is set to premiere in December 2025, and is preparing its plot to explore the iconic setting of New Vegas, one of the most celebrated scenarios in the franchise. The information was confirmed in a teaser that shows Lucy (played by Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) crossing the Mojave desert towards the irradiated ruins of the city.

The preview highlights the Lucky 38 Resort and Casino, a central point in Fallout: New Vegas, released in 2010 by Obsidian Entertainment. Goggins appears in a recording prior to his transformation into a Ghoul, promoting the shelters of Vault-Tec, including a commercial for the casino. Next, he and Lucy observe the destroyed skyline of the old Las Vegas, where the Lucky 38 emerges as a symbol in ruins of pre-war civilization.

"The series already has a confirmed third season," said Amazon, with Aaron Moten (Maximus) mentioning in interviews that the content of the Fallout universe could easily sustain "five or six seasons".

This optimism is anchored in the vast content of the six main titles of the franchise, hundreds of side quests, and a rich collection of parallel stories through audio, diaries, and settings. The series format also allows for the introduction of new elements within the canon, expanding the post-apocalyptic universe without losing its essence.

Unlike the lukewarm reception of the Halo adaptation by Paramount, the first season of Fallout surprised both Amazon and Microsoft, reaching an audience beyond the traditional fan base. The success had a direct impact on the games: Fallout 4 received an update for the new generation in 2024 and returned to the top of the most played lists. Meanwhile, Fallout 76 reached one of the highest numbers of active players since its launch in 2018.

However, there is no forecast for Fallout 5. Bethesda Game Studios is currently focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, and any new main project from the franchise should take time. Nevertheless, there is speculation that Microsoft could license the IP to another studio to develop something smaller - or even a remaster of Fallout 3, in line with the recent success of Oblivion Remastered, although nothing official has been announced.

The series' move to New Vegas raises high expectations, especially for long-time fans, who consider the Obsidian game one of the richest in terms of narrative and character choice. The political tone, the factions in conflict, and the noir style of Vegas promise to be the new backdrop for Lucy, Ghoul, and the upcoming developments.
