The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake almost confirmed after leaks on Bethesda's website
It is official (or almost): the winds of the The Elder Scrolls world are blowing stronger and stronger for the arrival of the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake. Even without a formal announcement from Bethesda, the signs are everywhere, and now they have emerged directly from the company itself: the official website of the company has let slip important references to the project.
It all started earlier this week when screenshots and details of the Oblivion Remake were discovered on the Virtuos website, a studio known for its work on remasters and support for major franchises. Now, attentive fans have found something even more concrete: codes on bethesda.net indicating the existence of a specific page for "oblivion-remastered", including a "Buy Now" button, which was quickly removed.
"I was exploring the source code of bethesda.net and found a reference to 'oblivion-remastered' in the setup of Google Tag Manager," a user on Reddit revealed, sharing screenshots. "The link pointed to https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en/oblivion-remastered. The page is not active yet, but I checked on Wayback Machine and this reference did not exist on April 10th. It was added very recently!"
Although Bethesda tried to erase the traces – both on its own website and on the Virtuos pages –, the internet, as always, was faster, and copies of these files are already widely circulating.
The hottest rumors indicate that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake will be released in a shadow drop next week, available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as being part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog from day one. A bold strategy, but one that fits perfectly with the recent industry trend for surprise announcements.
It is worth remembering that The Elder Scrolls fans have been thirsty for news for a long time. Since the release of Skyrim — yes, that distant 2011 —, the main series has practically hibernated, except for expansions and continuous support for The Elder Scrolls Online. The announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 during E3 2018 still remains shrouded in mystery, with no relevant updates.
In a humorous tone, journalist Jim Trinca recently joked: "Remake Morrowind, not Oblivion, you cowards." Many franchise veterans still dream of revisiting the dark and exotic world of Vvardenfell with modern graphics and mechanics — but for now, the path seems to lead us back to Cyrodiil.
If everything continues as the leaks suggest, we will soon have a remastered version of this classic from 2006, promising to bring back the epic freedom, iconic factions, and portals to the demonic world of Oblivion, now with updated visuals and, who knows, some gameplay improvements.
Now we just have to wait. With the hints getting stronger and Bethesda's own website unintentionally giving away gold, it seems that we are truly about to rediscover the Imperial City in all its glory — and perhaps with a new perspective.
