Take-Two removes DEI from reports and changes institutional tone
A Take-Two Interactive, responsible for franchises like GTA 6, NBA 2K25, Borderlands 4, and Red Dead Redemption, significantly altered the content of its annual fiscal report for 2025 by removing all direct mentions of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The change was highlighted by the site GameFile, which compared the new document with the previous year's report from 2024, revealing a reformulation in the company's institutional discourse.
In 2024, the report had a specific section titled "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion", where the company stated that "diverse teams are more valuable and effective". It also included data on hires, corporate culture, and awards received for good practices related to LGBTQIA+ inclusion and other minorities, such as recognition from the Gay Gaming Professionals group.
In the new 2025 report, this section was replaced by a topic titled "Community and Interaction". In it, Take-Two adopts a more generic tone:
"We firmly believe that diversity of thought leads the innovation that is integral to our success."
The new version of the document also includes a reduced list of awards received by games published in the fiscal year 2024, completely omitting mentions of awards linked to social or inclusion causes. Although the new report maintains a superficial position favorable to innovation and internal well-being, there are no longer measurable diversity indicators, goals, or explicit commitments, suggesting an institutional retreat in prioritizing these agendas.
This change comes at a time of increased financial market pressure on major publishers, who seek to reduce costs, reformulate strategies, and face criticism over operating expenses and management policies. It is worth noting that Take-Two is on the verge of releasing GTA 6, scheduled for 2025, and also recently announced layoffs of 5% of its workforce, as detailed in its last fiscal quarter.
The removal of DEI commitments in reports is not an isolated trend. Other companies in the industry, such as Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts, had already signaled, in previous statements, that they would reassess how to communicate and implement these policies, often pressured by shareholders or changes in the American political landscape.
The impact of Take-Two's new stance will be closely monitored, especially by advocacy groups and industry collaborators advocating for greater representation and inclusion. To date, the company has not issued additional public statements on the reason for the changes in its reports.
