Take-Two investigates GTA 6 leaks on Discord

Protecting the integrity of development work against blackmail and criminal leaks on the internet is a correct and essential measure to safeguard the planning of major industry productions. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, identified two accounts on the Discord platform as directly responsible for the recent leak of confidential materials from Grand Theft Auto 6.

The collected information indicates that the publisher will take legal action against the Discord account holders to obtain identification and registration data of those involved in distributing the files.

The investigation is being conducted in secrecy to prevent the involved parties from deleting traces of their online activities, although the profiles associated with the publications have already been removed from the platform following the case's repercussion.

The leaked videos circulated on social media between August 18 and 26 under the authorship of a profile going by the name "Cyberleek".

The material showed new gameplay mechanics, including the protagonist Jason on basketball courts and the presence of an area inhabited by nudists in the game map.

The individual responsible for the leaks claimed publicly to be protesting the absence of physical discs in the retail editions of GTA 6, demanding cryptocurrency payments to cease the leaking of the collection.

However, authorities involved in the analysis note that the real motivation was merely to extort money from the company and exploit the community's excitement surrounding the project.

Identifying and penalizing blackmailers attempting to monetize stolen files is a necessary response from Take-Two Interactive to curb piracy. On the other hand, the continuous emergence of security breaches in Rockstar Games projects reveals an unsettling vulnerability in the company's internal file control, while public dissatisfaction with the lack of complete physical media in stores shows that the publisher's commercial insensitivity continues to fuel unnecessary controversies in the market.
