Switch 2 Dominates Sales in France, Surpassing PS5 Launch

Liked by 0 people

The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved significant sales performance in France during its launch period, with over 200,000 units sold. This number surpasses the previous record set by the PlayStation 5, which sold 107,000 units in the country in 2020.

The information was disclosed by Gyo, a sales and marketing manager for video games operating in France. The data provided by Gyo details the commercial impact of the new Nintendo console in the French market:

  • Over 200,000 units sold in the first weekend.
  • Over €100 million in revenue from consoles alone.
  • Total revenue, including games and accessories, exceeded €130 million.
  • 70% of sales were bundles that included Mario Kart.
  • Only 3% to 5% of Switch 2 buyers did not purchase Mario Kart.

For comparative context, Gyo mentioned that the PS5 Pro did not exceed 10,000 units sold in the same market. This comparison, although not directly equivalent in terms of product category (a next-gen console versus a hardware revision), highlights the strong reception of the Switch 2.

Nintendo projects to sell approximately 15 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 globally by the end of the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026. The initial performance in France may be indicative of the console's sales potential in other markets.
