Switch 2 breaks PS4 and PS5 records with 10.36 million units in 4 months
The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a remarkable sales pace, surpassing all previous PlayStation launch records. Between June 5 and September 30, 2025, more than 10.36 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were sold in just four months.
This phenomenal performance means that the Switch 2 sold more consoles in this period than the PS4 (7.5 million), the PS5 (7.8 million), and the original Nintendo Switch (4.7 million) in their first six months of availability.
Nintendo sold 4.54 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles just between July, August, and September 2025, and recorded the sale of nearly 12 million Switch 2 games in the same period.
In light of these impressive numbers, Nintendo has revised its Nintendo Switch 2 sales forecast upwards, increasing it from 15 to 19 million units sold before April 2026, when the new fiscal year begins.
In contrast, Nintendo sold 900,000 units of the original Nintendo Switch in the quarter, which prompted the reduction of the sales forecast for this console in the fiscal year from 4.5 million to 4 million units.
The success of the new hardware is closely tied to the performance of the games. Nintendo revealed that Mario Kart World has already sold close to 9.6 million units, indicating that the overwhelming majority of Nintendo Switch 2 players are buying the game along with the console.
Below are the updated sales data for some titles:
Mario Kart World - 9.57 million
Donkey Kong Bananza - 3.49 million
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 69.56 million
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 48.62 million
