Square Enix invests in a new Brazilian platform that changes the game
Square Enix made its first investment in Brazil, and the news goes beyond a simple partnership. The Japanese giant invested in Nuuvem, the largest digital gaming platform in Latin America, to support the launch of spawnd, a new and innovative tool that promises to transform the way we discover and play game demos. The news is a victory for innovation and for the development scene in Latin America.
spawnd is a new game discovery model. The platform allows players to instantly try game demos, "straight in the browser," without the need for downloads or subscriptions. This technology allows demos to be embedded in store pages, media articles, influencers channels, and even in social media posts, solving one of the biggest problems in the industry: the difficulty for players to find and try demos.
In addition to the benefit for players, spawnd offers a "frictionless discovery funnel" for developers and publishers. The platform provides real-time engagement data, allowing studios to optimize their marketing and design decisions. The promise to increase "organic wishlists" on Steam and the ability to reach a global audience without latency or queues, like other cloud gaming solutions, positions spawnd as a powerful and accessible tool for the industry.
Nuuvem, which already has over 3.4M registered players and partnerships with more than 450 publishers and studios, including giants like Capcom, SEGA, Bandai Namco, and Cygames, was the target of the investment. Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of the Investment and Business Development Department at Square Enix Holdings, stated that "Latin America is a strategic territory, full of passionate players and a strong bond with Japanese culture." He added that the investment reflects the "belief in Nuuvem and the potential of spawnd to transform game discovery."
spawnd has already been launched and has an initial library of 12 titles, including acclaimed games like The Posthumous Investigation, CyberWar, Ginsha, Ironhive, Valfaris, Figment, Cris Tales, Cross-Code, SUPERHOT, Townscaper, Monster Sanctuary, and Doom 3. The platform expects to have more than 100 new games by the end of the year. Square Enix's investment in Nuuvem and spawnd is fantastic news that demonstrates the potential of Latin American innovation on a global scale.
