SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake Looks Like F.U.N. in New Gameplay

Plus: Mr. Krabs has proper voice.

Following the warm reception to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, developer Purple Lamp Studios was given the go-ahead to make its own original game. Named SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, this pseudo-sequel to that fan favourite platformer is shaping up rather well in IGN's 13-minute look at gameplay.

It looks to be very similar, albeit with a refreshed look and some new moves for our spongey hero. Accompanied by Patrick who, for reasons unknown, is a balloon, SpongeBob explores a wild west version of his undersea home, gathering cactus juice for Mr. Krabs. Incidentally, Clancy Brown provides the voice work for the money-loving crustacean this time; his tones were infamously missing from Battle for Bikini Bottom, so it's great to hear him join the rest of the show's cast in this new game.

Anyway, it's looking like a lot of light-hearted fun — smashing crates, collecting bubbles, and defeating baddies in a colourful environment, like any good 3D platformer. There's still no release date for Cosmic Shake, but hopefully it's just around the corner.

Are you looking forward to it?
