Split Fiction will become a movie with Sydney Sweeney and directed by Jon M. Chu
The acclaimed Split Fiction, released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will be adapted for the big screen with Sydney Sweeney in the lead role. The direction will be in charge of Jon M. Chu, known for the upcoming musical Wicked, and the screenplay will be signed by the duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, from Deadpool & Wolverine.
The project is in the hands of Story Kitchen, produced by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson, specialized in game adaptations. The company has already collaborated with franchises like Sonic, Tomb Raider, and is behind the Streets of Rage movie, still in development. The announcement was made after intense competition between studios during GDC 2025, reinforcing the potential of the IP from Hazelight Studios in the audiovisual universe.
"We are excited about the opportunity to expand the Split Fiction universe on the big screen. The reception from the public and critics shows that the narrative has power beyond control," said a representative of Story Kitchen.
Recently released, Split Fiction has already surpassed 2 million copies sold in just the first week, being one of the biggest commercial and critical successes of 2025. The game mixes elements of interactive drama and cooperative action, with a story divided between the perspectives of Zoe and Mio — but it has not yet been revealed which of the characters will be played by Sydney Sweeney.
For players, the game is available with 10% discount for EA Play subscribers, strengthening the distribution partnership with Electronic Arts. Hazelight, under the creative direction of Josef Fares, had already stood out with It Takes Two, the 2021 Game of the Year winner, and now consolidates its position in the market with a new phenomenon.
So far, there are no details about filming schedules or other confirmed cast members. Production is still in the early stages, with new developments expected throughout the second half of the year. The expectation is that the film will maintain the emotional complexity and multiple points of view that have made the game a narrative milestone in current video games.
