Split Fiction, the newest cooperative game from Hazelight Studios, published by Electronic Arts, achieved an impressive milestone: over 2 million copies sold in just seven days after its official release on March 6, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).

This significant number comes in the wake of a staggering launch: the title had already reached 1 million units sold in the first two days, signaling from the start the strong appeal to fans of cooperative adventures. Now, with twice that number in a week, Split Fiction shows that the legacy of It Takes Two continues to be strong and influential.

"Over two million players have embarked on the cooperative journey of Split Fiction in one week. We are immensely grateful for the support of our new adventure," announced Electronic Arts and Hazelight in an official statement.

But what makes Split Fiction so special?

According to the official description from EA, Split Fiction is a split-screen cooperative adventure, centered on Mio and Zoe, two writers with completely opposite styles who, after being connected to a machine that steals their creative ideas, end up trapped within their own stories. To escape, they must work together, alternating between worlds of science fiction and fantasy, on a journey full of twists and unexpected challenges.

Among the main highlights of the game are:

"An experience built from the ground up for two players, where cooperation is essential to overcome obstacles, with cross-play support and the famous Friend’s Pass, which allows you to invite a friend to play for free."

"Each stage offers unique abilities and surprising worlds, from escaping a supernova sun to dance battles against a monkey, flights on floating boards, and even facing off against an evil cat."

"Even with clashing personalities, Mio and Zoe must learn to trust each other. Together, they will face bizarre situations in universes molded by their own imaginations."

Despite the sales success, the milestone achieved by Split Fiction also creates high expectations. Coming from Hazelight, a studio that has already conquered the market with the acclaimed It Takes Two, winner of Game of the Year 2021, the new game needed to not only repeat the successful formula but innovate. Fortunately, the mix of varied mechanics, captivating story, and creative design seems to have hit the mark with the audience once again.

It's worth noting that the Friend’s Pass remains active, allowing only one player to purchase the game and invite another for free, something that undoubtedly boosts sales and popularity among players looking for good cooperative options.

With 2 million copies sold and very positive reviews, the question now is: what will be the next step for Hazelight? The studio has shown that it knows how to create unique experiences for two players, but the market, always demanding, will closely follow the next content, updates, and, perhaps, expansions for Split Fiction.

For now, the game's success is undeniable, but the industry has already learned that maintaining long-term interest from the public is the real challenge. Will Split Fiction continue to grow? Only time — and the next steps from Hazelight and EA — will tell.
