Space Marine 2 is banning online game mods

Yes, Saber Interactive will ban mods from their latest major release, however, it is not exactly a bad thing, as the game's modders will have greater support in the future!

The team not only described exactly why mods need to go away, but also explained how the modding community will actually get even more support than before. So, if you are worried about not seeing mods for SM2 anymore, or that this ban means you can't use them at all, I have good news for you.

Fortunately, there are already interesting mods for Space Marine 2, but they have had a certain impact on the game server, especially mods used in the game's multiplayer mode. However, the team is not exactly doing as other developers and completely banning this from the game, and in a statement they explained more about the decision:

“Mods are great and will undoubtedly contribute to the longevity of this game,” writes Space Marine 2 game director Dmitriy Grigorenko. “However, we as developers must also ensure the stability of the game and continuously work towards a smoother experience for all players. Our data shows that a significant amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that the instability even affects users who do not have mods installed. We have also received reports from users that their saved files were corrupted after playing with players using mods.”

“That is why, starting from our next major update in December, mods will be banned from public online sessions. This means that you will no longer be able to join a public game if you have mods installed.”

Mods for Space Marine 2 will still be eligible in some game modes, however, as Grigorenko adds, you can use them in private Operations lobbies. The necessary server infrastructure to play online with your friends while using mods will remain intact, and you can even use them in custom Eternal War lobbies when that feature is added to the game as well.

However, we will still have flowers for the modders, who will receive support within the game to be able to install mods in a better way. Not to mention that the developers have plans to provide their own tools, which should make each creation increasingly creative.
