Sony ignores requests for Bloodborne and focuses on other IPs
Despite the continuous and vocal demand from fans and the expectations generated by rumors of future events, it seems that Sony has no plans for the acclaimed PS4 classic, Bloodborne. According to recent industry reports, the IP remains without any movement, frustrating the community waiting for a remaster, remake, or even a sequel.
The fact that Bloodborne continues to be played on PS5 only via backward compatibility at 30 frames-per-second is a point of friction for many players. Expectations were recently raised by rumors of a State of Play event and the launch of game merchandise at TGS. However, an industry source claims that fans should not expect any news. In his podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb reported that he checked with his sources about the IP situation and the response was clear:
"Nothing is happening with Bloodborne."
The situation becomes more complex when considering that Sony owns the intellectual property of Bloodborne. This means that the company does not need direct involvement from FromSoftware to create a remake. The precedent for this already exists: Bluepoint Games was responsible for the remake of Demon's Souls for the PS5 release, an IP also owned by Sony. The company's inertia regarding one of its most beloved titles by its hardcore player base raises questions.
The original studio behind Bloodborne, FromSoftware, seems to be busy with other projects. The developer continues to support Elden Ring Nightreign and is actively developing The Duskbloods, an exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2 with a planned release in 2026. However, these projects do not fill the gap of a major single-player RPG that FromSoftware may have on the horizon, and an announcement of a next major title may still be a few years away.
The lack of concrete plans from Sony for Bloodborne is a disappointment for the gaming community, especially considering the potential of the IP and the precedent of high-level remakes already released. The company's decision not to revisit the classic, despite having the power to do so, leaves fans indefinitely waiting for a return.
