Silksong has an update on Steam and reignites release rumors.
Another discreet update in the Steam database was enough to reignite speculations around Hollow Knight: Silksong, a game developed by the Australian studio Team Cherry. The title, which has become one of the most anticipated in the indie scene in recent years, had a package updated for the first time in over a year, according to data from the SteamDB website, recorded on May 27.
Although there are no official details, attentive users noticed that one of the packages linked to Silksong was modified — something that had not happened since 2023. The change sparked debates and theories in online communities, especially on Reddit and forums like ResetEra, where fans point out that the new movement may mean that a build of the game has finally been sent to Steam servers.
Expectations now revolve around the possible appearance of the title at events scheduled for June 2025, such as the Summer Game Fest, the Xbox Games Showcase, and even a potential announcement related to the much-speculated Nintendo Switch 2, a platform where the game was also confirmed.
Despite the excitement generated, the studio's stance remains unchanged. Known for its extreme discretion, Team Cherry has maintained absolute silence since the title's postponement in May 2023, when they communicated that the game "needed more time to achieve the expected quality."
Since its announcement in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong has accumulated four years of visible development and numerous periods of silence, with rare public appearances at events or trailers. The title, initially planned as an expansion of the first Hollow Knight (released in 2017), grew in scope and became a new game starring Hornet, a secondary character from the original game.
Fan frustration has been constant, with occasional updates in databases and movements in digital stores serving as the only fuel for speculations. The studio's lack of transparent communication has generated criticism, even in the face of the respect that the first game earned for its excellence in level design, 2D art direction, and soundtrack by Christopher Larkin.
If the new update represents something concrete — like a closed beta, a test build, or even a preparatory upload for pre-sale — that still needs to be officially confirmed. Until then, expectations persist, fueled by minimal changes and a history of prolonged waits.
The community now awaits the June announcements, with renewed hopes, but also with skepticism built after years of frustrated speculations.
