Shuhei Yoshida, one of PlayStation's most popular and respected executives, will be honoured at this year's BAFTA Games Awards for his achievements in the games industry. At the ceremony, to be held on 30 March, he will receive the BAFTA Fellowship Award, the highest honour bestowed by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Yoshida has worked for PlayStation for decades, joining the project in 1993, a year before the launch of the brand's first console. He was previously president of Sony Computer Entertainment and currently heads the SIE's ''Independent Developers'' initiative, which is dedicated to promoting smaller independent studios.

The BAFTA Fellowship Award is given to people who have made "outstanding achievements in the art form of the moving image". Other award winners from the games industry include Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima, John Carmack and Media Molecule's Siobhan Reddy.

"Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with incredibly talented teams who have created some of the best games in the industry," Yoshida said in a statement. "I've always celebrated alongside these developers when their games have received well-deserved awards - it's an incredible honor for me to receive an award in my own right."
