Shenmue 3 and the possibility of expansion: Xbox and Switch in view?
ININ Games, which took over the publication of Shenmue 3 since November 2024, is focused on expanding options for the series fans. In a bold move, the company recently released a survey to gauge players' interest in seeing the title on platforms like Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch, in addition to other systems like PS5 and macOS. After all, who doesn't want to see Ryo Hazuki exploring new horizons, right?
Now, a little context: ININ Games replaced Deep Silver as the publisher, exactly on the 25th anniversary of Shenmue and the 5th anniversary of Shenmue 3. But, before you get too excited, it's worth noting that the franchise rights still belong to Sega. ININ is only focused on the title's future. And, with that, plans emerge to revitalize the game, perhaps addressing criticisms about performance and mechanics that the original version received.
“Fill out the survey, if you're a fan of the series or if you just know a bit about Ryo's story. Your feedback will be very important to us, as always!” — declares Yu Suzuki, series creator, who, of course, remains involved in the process. In parallel, there is great anticipation for the release of the new Switch 2, which could be a key to this expansion.
There are still no official confirmations, but, who knows? Perhaps soon we will see Shenmue 3 shine on Xbox and Switch as well. And, if player feedback is positive, who knows, maybe even some gameplay improvements.
