Secret Level: Creators talk about possible adaptation of Warhammer 40,000
The new series from Amazon that is expected to arrive in December has been generating good expectations and many are excited to see it soon, especially because their favorite games are included. One of the main games in the antagonist series is Warhammer 40K, which despite having a good reputation, has not yet had a great adaptation for the screens.
With that in mind, in addition to the episode of Secret Level, we will also have a series that is also being developed by Amazon and has none other than Henry Cavill in charge!
Yes, after his departure from The Witcher series on Netflix, which followed a path completely unrelated to the original story of the witcher, Henry Cavill will venture into another production about a game that the actor loves.
The information comes from the executive producer of Secret Level, Dave Wilson who spoke with GamesRadar+ and said that the episode and the series of Warhammer 40K are now well separated, even though they are being developed by Amazon Prime.
"They are well separated now," he explains. "I would say we have been close to Games Workshop for years and I am a big fan of Warhammer. We did a 40k episode 20 years ago at Blur [Studios], and it was one of my favorite and proudest moments of my time with Blur. I am looking forward to returning to 40k after two decades. But, you know, these franchises do not belong to us, or anyone in Hollywood, they belong to the creatives in Nottingham who have kept this franchise alive for 40 years, right?
"Whatever Henry is doing and whatever plans we may have, all we really want to do is elevate this franchise a little higher, if we can. If we can be complementary to everything we are doing together, that would be amazing. The truth is that there are so many stories to tell in Warhammer that even if there were 10 people trying to tell them, there would be enough for everyone."
Wilson also spoke about the criteria of the team behind Warhammer, and in my opinion also explains why the saga has not had adaptations in the cinema yet. And they are right to be careful with their product, since adaptations made in Hollywood are usually given to directors who know nothing about the franchises, the case of Resident Evil is something to be remembered so it is not repeated again.
"The Games Workshop people are incredibly insightful and aware of their franchise," he continues. "It is the only good thing about them being successful, for lack of a better way to say it, they are cautious, right? They do not need Hollywood to come in, they were successful before we borrowed what they had. So I think they want to make sure it is done right, and they will take as long as it takes to do so."
