Ryder was not a traitor? Some curiosities about GTA San Andreas!

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a classic from Rockstar Games, and that's not the debate today, but rather about the secrets that the game carries within it, whether about development or story.

GTA SA has a great story and many secrets to be explored, as shown by the fact that even today, details about its development are still being revealed. Whether it's the reason why several identical cars appear right after you get the vehicle you wanted so much, or even about the planes exploding in the rural parts of the game.

Not to mention some of the plot holes that the game presents, but they don't change much of your experience while playing. Here, I bring some curiosities about the game, and maybe even solving some of the doubts that I and others have about the game.

GTA San Andreas - The Introduction: If you didn't manage to get an original copy of the game when it was released, but still got curious about the game's plot, chances are when you looked it up, you came across this video:

The game received an introduction video showing the game's plot and some of the characters that would be present. Some of this happens shortly before CJ returns to his hometown, when things start to unfold!

Planes Exploding: If you play the game enough, you have surely seen this happening. Some of the planes in the game have the terrible habit of exploding, either by crashing into a building or mountain, or even against the player if they are high enough to witness it.

This has always been a secret, which even became a kind of urban legend in the game, but years later we had the possibility to learn more about the game's code, through one of the developers who explained the situation with the planes!

Obbe Vermeij, former developer at Rockstar, talked about this detail on X, where he explained that these air accidents happen because "small planes are created periodically near the player to perform overflights".

In this scan to find obstacles, it could end up freezing, causing the plane to collide. Another problem that occurred was that some planes appeared at high altitudes and at times they could lose the same if their initial speed was not enough.

A perfect example of this happening:

Was Ryder really a traitor? At this point, I lose a bit of certainty, as only one of the game's writers could give us the answer. The point is that one of the most important characters in the game has a big plot hole and a lack of presence in the game after the first set of missions in Los Santos.

Ryder is no longer mentioned in the game, although there are missions where he appears, his lines and presence there are very small.

Of course, the game doesn't leave Ryder as a loose end, as we execute the character in San Fierro, but again he has almost no lines and CJ doesn't show the same feelings as shown towards Smoke.

It's an interesting curiosity that raises theories to this day that something changed during the game's development, making Ryder a traitor indeed, since initially, if we take a good look at the character's lines, he reproaches Smoke when the member starts showing disloyalty to the Families gang.

Why are all the cars the same as mine? Many who have played the game have had the feeling that the game is hiding the good cars, and of course, with the tuning system that is unlocked at the end of the San Fierro arc, we want to see the possibilities and then spend hours and hours looking for a good car.

And to the irony of fate, when you finally get a good car, thousands of other similar cars start to appear, as if the game wanted to make you feel less special and luckily, that's not exactly what the game wanted to do!

Another of the doubts that Obbe Vermeij answered was this, explaining the reason why so many cars were the same after you got what you wanted so much. And the answer is a bit simpler than it seems.

When the game puts cars driving around, it needs to be aware of how many cars it can put and how many car varieties. The more variety within the open world, the more memory and processing power will be needed, which, at that time, ended up reducing the variety of cars, making the game a bit lighter.

Of course, nowadays it's a bit harder to happen, but on the PlayStation 2 it was certainly quite common, since the console's RAM memory was not so powerful, being able to put only 8 different types of cars on the map!

These are just some of the curiosities about the game that I am enjoying to the fullest again, along with GTA V, to prepare for GTA VI next year, and of course, that calls for a great ritual!
