Rumor: The Witcher 3 May Receive New DLC in 2026
A new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may be in development, with a planned release for 2026. This information, which is not official from CD Projekt RED, came from the Polish podcast Rock and Boris, which claims to have obtained the news from multiple independent sources. If confirmed, this would be the third expansion for the acclaimed RPG, following Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, and would arrive before The Witcher 4.
According to the podcast presenters, the project would be led by Fool’s Theory, a studio notable for being responsible for the remake of the first The Witcher and for being composed of former developers of the original game, including Kuba Rokosz, who worked on mission design. The connection of Fool's Theory with the franchise and with CD Projekt RED (who is also the publisher of The Thaumaturge, a game developed by Fool's Theory) adds a layer of credibility to the rumor.
Rumors suggest a possible release order for the franchise: console mods support for The Witcher 3 (already confirmed for 2025), followed by this supposed DLC in 2026, then The Witcher 4, and lastly, the remake of the first game. This timeline aligns with the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3 in May 2025, which could justify new content.
CD Projekt RED has not yet officially commented on the possible expansion. The company only confirmed the release of mods support with crossplay for The Witcher 3, scheduled for this year in 2025.
Considering that information about the DLC has not been officially announced, it should be treated as a rumor. However, the possibility of a new story for Geralt of Rivia before the arrival of The Witcher 4 has generated excitement among the community. It is speculated, in fact, that the new content could serve as a narrative bridge for the next major title in the series, perhaps exploring events that link the endings of The Witcher 3 to a unique starting point for Ciri's journey as the protagonist in The Witcher 4.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, released in 2015, continues to be a milestone in the RPG genre, with its deep narrative and impactful choices. The longevity of the game, with its active player base and future additions of mods support and possibly a new DLC, demonstrates the resilience and lasting appeal of the work of CD Projekt RED. The remake of The Witcher 1, on the other hand, is being built from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 and has been a discreet project in terms of details, but with Fool's Theory involved, the expectation is that it will honor the origins of the series.
The fan community remains attentive to any official announcement from CD Projekt RED, as a new DLC for The Witcher 3 would be a welcome surprise, especially considering the still likely distance to the release of The Witcher 4, which according to financial reports, is not expected to be released before 2027.
