RTS Battle Aces is canceled after tests with low adherence
The Uncapped Games has officially confirmed the cancellation of Battle Aces, its RTS (real-time strategy) project that had been revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024. The announcement was made through a statement published on the game's official Steam page, prematurely ending a project that promised innovation in the genre but failed to reach the minimum engagement levels expected in its preliminary tests.
According to the developers, the results obtained in the testing sessions held in April 2025 were decisive for the closure. The community's response was considered insufficient to justify the advancement of development, especially given the proposed ambition and scope.
“Despite the potential and innovative ideas behind Battle Aces, the tests showed that the level of engagement would not be sufficient to sustain the project long term,” stated Uncapped Games.
The project sought to bring a new breath to the RTS genre, focusing on dynamic matches, tactical decisions, and modern mechanics adapted to the competitive reality of current multiplayer games. The idea was to present a faster pace, balanced with accessible controls and advanced strategic possibilities — something that, according to the developers, was not well received in the initial interactions with the public.
The studio also emphasized that they “considered all variables” before making the decision, and chose to end the game's production while the investment was still in its early stages. Their goal, according to them, was to avoid a drawn-out release, with unfulfilled promises and possible future player frustration.
Battle Aces initially garnered positive attention upon its reveal, with a trailer suggesting a promising future and important differentiators within the current market, increasingly dominated by real-time action games, shooters, and battle royales. However, like other recent RTS games — such as Stormgate or the return of Age of Empires IV — the project faced the challenges of finding an audience truly willing to invest time in a genre that, despite being classic, is not among the most popular nowadays.
The cancellation also exposes a recurring dilemma: how to balance innovation and engagement in niche genres without compromising the project's sustainability. The studio did not inform whether they will redirect efforts to another game, nor if any part of the technology or concept of Battle Aces could be reused in the future.
