Rockstar would have removed Podcast with statements about GTA 6 at 30 FPS on consoles

The controversy surrounding the performance of GTA 6 on consoles has taken a new turn, this time with a supposed direct intervention from Rockstar Games. The podcast Kiwi Talkz, which had published an interview with Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar, was removed without an official explanation.

The reason? According to the host himself, the video was taken down at York's request, possibly after a legal contact from Rockstar.

In the interview, Mike York, who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, stated that GTA 6 would run at a locked 30 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. He ruled out the possibility of a performance mode with 60 FPS, saying that the scale of the open world "would strangle" the consoles.

"I don't know if they will be able to achieve 60 FPS," said York. "I think they will aim for 30 FPS - and a locked 30 FPS, without drops below that. It may even reach 40 or 50 FPS at times, but it won't be a 60 FPS game on base consoles."

Just a few hours after the interview aired, the video disappeared from the Kiwi Talkz channel. The host himself commented on the removal, saying it was at the request of the interviewee:

"Unfortunately, at Mike's request, I had to remove my latest interview. Apologies to everyone."

The host also posted saying that "apparently, he said things he shouldn't have", but the post was deleted shortly after.

York also commented on the PC version, stating that the game could run between 40 and 50 FPS with higher settings and optimizations for future video cards, like the RTX 50 series from Nvidia. This statement sparked a new debate among players, who are now speculating about possible limitations of the PC version.

Furthermore, he mentioned that even the newly released PS5 Pro would not be able to run GTA 6 at 60 FPS natively, increasing expectations for possible improvements with AI upscaling, something that Sony has been implementing.

Rockstar and the Secrecy Surrounding GTA 6

The Rockstar Games continues its strategy of total control of information about GTA 6, which is scheduled for 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With rumors of a second trailer for early this year and the possible high price of R$ 600, fans are eager for official details.

Meanwhile, the case of Mike York's interview only fuels even more curiosity and discussions about what to expect from the anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. Will Rockstar address the issue?
