After months of silence, Rockstar Games officially confirmed the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI, now with a scheduled release on May 26, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The new date replaces previous expectations, which indicated a possible release still in 2025.

The information came accompanied by a formal statement from the company, which emphasized the importance of delivering a product with the quality expected by players:

"Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this date is later than you expected."

"The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto have been truly thrilling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finalize the game."

"With every game we release, our goal has always been to exceed your expectations — and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve."

The first trailer of the game, released in December 2023, became a milestone: it had over 250 million views by April 2025, becoming the most watched game video in YouTube history in 24 hours, surpassing previous records from the studio itself.

Since then, GTA VI has disappeared from official channels, fueling rumors of internal delays. The official confirmation now ends the speculations. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, had already indicated in previous financial reports that "adjustments to the production schedule" could occur.

Although the wait is longer, Rockstar Games stated that new information will be released soon, including updates on mechanics, characters, and setting — which is expected to be in Vice City, with playable protagonists and a narrative inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
